In 1722, the Spanish established a fortified community on Santa Rosa Island. Devastating storms in 1752 eventually forced its residents to relocate across the bay to what became downtown Pensacola.

Prior to that in 1559, Tristán de Luna brought around 1,500 people from Mexico to establish a colony in nearby Pensacola Bay six years before St. Augustine was founded.

During the night of September 19, 1559 Seven of his ships were lost in a hurricane. Six sank and another washed inland in a grove of trees, the details come from local historical records but its precise location was never revealed. Among the lost vessels were the expedition’s flagship Urca Jesus , and the large 600 ton San Juan de Ulúa which have been identified. by @chris_kyttle

Skateboarding gave me so much more than tricks, contests, or boards with my name on them. It taught me how to fall, get back up, and keep pushing towards my dreams, and never be afraid to take a different path. But more than anything, I’m thankful for the incredible people it brought into my life. Some friendships lasted a season, others a lifetime. We may be a little washed up now, but I’ll always be grateful for the memories, the lessons, and the family I found through the 30 years I’ve been skateboarding. 🛹 ❤️💚💜 by @chris_kyttle
