If you spend enough time in Kyrgyzstan, you’re bound to end up in one of these. 🇰🇬
This is a UAZ, a rugged Soviet-era 4x4 built to handle rough roads, remote terrain, and places where pavement simply doesn’t exist. They’re still common across Kyrgyzstan today, especially in the mountains, where simple mechanics, serious off-road capability, and easy repairs matter more than comfort.
Not exactly a luxury ride. But when the road disappears somewhere in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan, this is what you want to be in

She makes this look simple.
But this is a skill that takes years to learn, and it’s becoming less common as traditional yurt-making fades from everyday life.
Watching her build it by hand was one of the coolest moments of our time in Kyrgyzstan.

Ever wondered how a traditional Kyrgyz yurt is actually built?
The entire structure is designed to be assembled, taken apart, and moved, making it perfectly suited to the nomadic lifestyle that shaped Kyrgyzstan for centuries.
From the collapsible lattice walls to the wooden roof poles and layers of felt, every part has a purpose.
Watching the whole thing come together was one of the coolest parts of our trip.
