‘FRANK and JEN’ has been awarded @sohotheatre's Tony Craze Award! This is an internationally resonant award known for highlighting the most exciting emerging playwrights in the UK. It is an HONOUR to be included. Over 9 months we were taken through devising drills, redrafting frameworks & dramaturgical exercises. We discussed format breaking plays, the 3 act structure, Joseph Campbell, The Hot Wing King, Debbie Tucker Green & The Lion King. There were Q&A’s with Olivier award winning playwrights & literary agents & playwriting award administrators, & through it all, we were encouraged to experiment & write our pieces boldly, fearlessly by curators: @julesmhaworth, @jennybxt, #SharmilaChauhan and #RoyAlexanderWeise. The room was AFLAME with joyful provocation. Delicious ideas. Sticky questions. Danger and mischief. Passion and verve. My dramaturg and mentor was MBE Roy Alexander Weise. Roy has a wicked gleam in his eye, a rumbling laugh, & the slow, steady temperament of a mountain. Roy was recently Artistic Director of the Royal Exchange Manchester & has an international reputation for innovative direction. He also has a knighthood (or whatever an MBE is). He’d say ‘You have more colour in you than this. Consider this bit more deeply’ & I would go away & think about Hanwoo beef & the HMRC & pigeon nesting habits & bring him the next script, and his eyebrows would shoot into the air, and he’d say ‘Yes man!’ As part of winning the Tony Craze, FRANK and JEN will get a full Industry sharing produced by Soho, probably later in 2026. Over the MOON to share that GLOBAL MAJORITY has been selected as one of three inaugural winning plays of the ILFELD PRIZE for 2026. The first draft of this thing was scribbled while backpacking across America, I was in New Orleans, spending all my nights at Preservation Hall, heading out on Swamp cruises, walking about Slave Plantations. I had my fortune read by tarot witches, commissioned street typewriter poets, and drank far too much cheap booze. I was also reading Obama's A PROMISED LAND. Obama was the first black president. Why? What were the gates and tests that had proven impassable to every other senior black candidate before Obama, and how precisely did Obama cross these deeply entrenched thresholds? What were these negotiations? How might this apply to other humans of the GLOBAL MAJORITY? A little while later, and I was working on a developmental workshop with pillar of the world, the phenomenal Director @ruperthands, leading a team of EXTRAORDINARY CREATIVES: #alexandrakataigida, @kayley.roo @cade.brannan #PhillipBretherton #SineadCusack @pauljforster @eilidh_evs And now, we have this funky play. SYNOPSIS BRIAN TRAN has been invited to interview with the CORWIN family. Their offer: support in running for Presidency as the first Asian candidate backed by a major party. What starts as a simple interview, quickly devolves into a nightmarish world where every word matters, and lives are at stake. THIS OPPORTUNITY IS PRECIOUS. I SHALL NOT WASTE IT! Global Majority at @bushtheatre is now on sale via all of the major theatre distribution websites in the UK. We're live on TodayTix, Official London Theatre, London Box Office, Theatre Tickets Direct, London Theatre, London Box Office and West End Theatre and London-Theatreland. Tickets to GM are there to buy right next to tickets to Tim Crouch, and the National Theatre, and all of these shows on the West End. I think that's pretty cool. My team and I have been in chats with byemiliechen who is the tremendously gifted graphic artist hired by Bush to design our poster. We have meets coming up for a marketing strategy and PR and events and development, and a publishing deal, and this too is pretty dang cool. Apparently we're selling well. That's wild. I'm not used to the idea of good news. The run is Nov 25 til Jan 16 for 7 weeks in the Bush Main House, and I cannot wait to share this. I can't wait to cook this. 3 weeks out from rehearsals now. AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS A UK Tour of 27 venues in 4 weeks, and then a 3 week run at the iconic @actorschurch in Covent Garden, this troupe of actors is special. They faced a MONSOON of difficulties, and grafted to overcome short rehearsal times, many competing complexities (so many complexities), and the realities of building/constructing a touring Actor/Muso Open-Air show in some of the most beautiful settings across England. They turned my words into magic. It was their imagination and heart that built this tempo-rich, dynamic, skill-testing world of a show. They faced their challenges with humility, gusto and great humour, and I couldn't be more grateful. All the flowers to this crew, and to the extremely skillful leadership of our captain Gabriella Sills. Her graceful and specific acumen gently guided us through one thousand and one sharp-toothed dangers. Her skill and inner equanimity is gargantuan. You should keep an eye out for the musical talent that is @thomasfarnold. What a bright and shining brain that joyful giant possesses. Many many thanks to @gabbiesills and @alfrescoactors for their trust in adapting this iconic classic. I am really proud of this one. A massive congratulations to client and superstar @onyemachiejimofor who will be joining the cast at @moulinmusicaluk, fresh from a long stint at @wickeduk. Singing technique can be confusing: nebulous, uncertain, up to chance - because it's all about building an awareness of, and then free manipulation of generally unconsciously controlled muscles to *vibrate better*. How we calibrate and become aware of this is incredibly subtle. How the heck are we supposed to do it with consistency? Onyemachi is a WORLD CLASS dancer, and wanted to build a robust, and repeatable practice, something that mirrors his impressive calisthenics, and tricking, and gymnastic skillset. His impressive bodily awareness alongside a natural adventurousness helped him take SUBSTANTIAL leaps towards *his* goals, which were a solid BELT/MIXED VOICE so that he could target the shows he was interested in targeting. Onyemachi very clearly strategised towards this job, and other jobs like it. It doesn't always happen like this, there are always so many variables which are contributive, but for Onyemachi, his plan came together, and quickly. I love it when that happens! Thrilled to say that I've been selected as a mentee with @projekteuropa's EMPOWER program. This program supports 10 mentees and 10 mentors to meet across a year in fellowship, and community, to strengthen the gluten bonds of migrant theatre makers across the UK. I applied specifically to be the mentee of BIG DOG Joel Tan, who holds a precious position of being one of only a handful of ESEA migrant playwrights platformed on commercial UK stages. Joel is a highly regarded and internationally resonant writer known for his witty commentaries on identity, politics and power. Winning this opportunity means I shall get to ask QUESTIONS of this Joel. I shall get to drink tea, and talk shop, and understand his inner world, and that is absolute gold dust. I am grateful. Projekt Europa are a beacon against the black, their ethos and credo a clarion call to diverse artists to lift their eyes to the night sky and see that there are stars.
