To be completely honest, I’ve never really cared much about photography contests. Maybe that’s because I’m much more emotionally connected to the experience, the story, or the creative process behind an image.

And feelings, subjectivity, and creativity are incredibly difficult to judge. Maybe even impossible.

I’d really love to hear your thoughts on this. How do you guys feel about it?

That said, this year I decided to submit a few images to @brasiliaphotoshow and the results were quite interesting. So I thought I’d share them with you.

“Sob o céu do ártico” was created by combining two of my photographs to ilustrate the image that was genuinely burned into my memory that night.

Obviously, with such an aurora happening, there was no single person left inside the tent. Everyone was outside photographing. But to me, there simply couldn’t have been a more powerful image of that night than this one. Creating it, however, would have required a very unlikely collaboration...

Despite that, I was actually hopeful about the Nature category, where four of my wildlife photographs made it to the semifinals, but unfortunately didn’t make it any further.

I’m leaving them here in the carousel so you can see them too. Because, as the event itself suggests, the worst photograph is the one nobody ever gets the chance to appreciate. taken in São Paulo, Brazil by @chrisburgrd

Photographer of the Week - @chrisburgrd

Long before pressing the shutter, Brazilian photographer Chris Burgard says that curiosity was the driving force behind all of his solo and family travels. Add to that a strong sense of commitment and a culture of experimentation, and you certainly have a photographer.

It didn’t take long for his greatest passions - the outdoor world and wildlife - to collide with the universe of art, turning his shots into fine art prints.

While searching for an EDC camera in London, right before an aurora hunting expedition in Finland, Chris had the opportunity to use a X-T30 for a few days and decided to switch his entire system to the X Series. Just like that he was sold.

He believes photography is not only a powerful tool to translate our view of the world, but also a way to step into a mysterious realm - one that develops the sensitivity needed to truly connect with the environment and the people.

Recently, his expertise and unique approach to travel have evolved into Photographic Expeditions across Brazil and around the world.
