Part 2 of my Freelancing Stories series! Early on in my professional career I had the chance to help develop a commercial for a "Modern Jetski" if you will. It was a good experience to better comprehend how to take the art skills I had obtained by then and convert incorporate it in a way that allowed me to create something for a real client. As per usual it didn't completely go as planned... but it was fun in the end! And was possible thanks partially to the amazing artist I collaborated with at the time! Here's a quick sneak peak of some of the concept art for the 1st episode of my animated pilot Kid Super! The story takes place in a fantasy land where there's a unique magic system in place. Technology occurs in the form of plants and nature, and my goal was to begin exploring this idea with my team through this early concept art. I'm quite pleased with how the worldbuilding came together in the end, and this largely started with these early concepts! #Animation #pilot #animatedpilot #conceptart by @chriscomix

One design idea that I've fallen in love with is the idea that a good design should be both familiar to an audience as well as feel slightly foreign (or unique). When someone sees a design that reminds them of something they love, this can be attention grabbing, sprinkle in a few foreign concepts and this adds mystery and intrigue. This was precisely one of my goals when crafting the original designs for the characters in my animated pilot. Recognizable enough to be approachable, but just different enough so that audiences would want to lean in and learn more. The character's designs have evolved quite a bit over the past 2 years, but it's fun to revisit where they originally started! #animation #cartion #pilot #animatedpilot by @chriscomix

Here's another brief animation test for my original animated series Kid Super! I believe this was the 1st ever test I did with Yeji's character. Yeji is a part of the "Dino Horn" species in the story, and is a mute warrior that is short in stature but has a heart of gold. Here's the 1st official poster art made for my original animated series! So wild looking back and seeing just how far the designs have come since early development. Also including a timelapse for how this was made, as no AI generative software was used at any stage in this creative process. Quick repost! Shared an animation test yesterday without any audio, and wanted to get the correct one up in it's place! One of my favorite opportunities that came with this project was working with some very talented voice actors, and their contribution alone is worth the reupload. So here again is the 1st EVER test I did for Titus's character! Was still playing around with the style and ideal workflow here, but it served as a meaningful building block which eventually led to the completed animation for my show! More examples like these to come! by @chriscomix

Something I’ve always loved since I was a little kid was seeing behind the scenes content for shows I enjoyed. I always felt like seeing behind the scenes for how something was made was a special glimpse that everyone didn’t always get to see. What you’d often find was the early drafts weren’t perfect, but they were an incredible part of the process that led to the vibrant results you’d see down the road. Almost 3 years ago I had an idea. A story about a silly kid thrown into a fantasy world with no other humans and the antics that would ensue. I pursued this idea by just doodling, not obsessing over details but just seeing where my imagination would take me. A year later, I fulfilled my vision and completed the pilot I always aimed for, but it only would have been possible if I first started with these silly little doodles here. Part 4 to my Making Bad series! In this video I wrap up the argument I aimed to make in the last 3 installments, specifically that Making "Bad" art is pivotal to an artist's eventual success. How chasing JOY first and foremost can lead to the most growth, even if it isn't highly professional right out the gate. I also use a few more personal examples of projects I tackled early on that weren't great... but DEFINITELY shaped me for the better! Part 3 of my “Making Bad” series! In this one I cover experiences I had in art school that reinforced the importance of experimenting and creating as much art as possible early on! This experience also taught me that you don’t always have to be the best in class to still have a vibrant art career! Bet on yourself, surround yourself with the right people, and remain disciplined and nearly anything is possible in today’s art space. The 2nd part of my mini series on the importance of “Bad Art”. When I first started leaning into the art of creation, I struggled just like many other artists on a number of things. Drawing hands, heads, objects and strong designs in general seemed to always evade me. Fortunately I kept at it for years, and eventually managed to get into art school, kick off my animation career, and eventually produce my own original animated show!
