⛪🪵 A face carved more than 550 years ago - and still telling its story.

Inside the Ulmer Münster in Ulm stands one of the great treasures of German Late Gothic art: its extraordinary choir stalls (Chorgestühl).

Created between 1469 and 1474, the monumental wooden ensemble is associated with Jörg Syrlin the Elder, responsible for the carpentry, and sculptor Michel Erhart, whose work includes its remarkable figures and busts.

Look closely at this carving. The expressive face, carefully shaped beard, folds of the clothing and positioning of the hands reveal an astonishing level of craftsmanship. These aren’t merely decorative figures - the choir stalls form an elaborate visual world of ancient poets and philosophers, Sibyls, biblical figures and heroes of Israel.

The approximately 18-metre-long stalls on each side of the choir are divided thematically: the north side is traditionally known as the men’s side, while the south side features the women’s series, including the Sibyls - prophetic women from antiquity who became part of medieval Christian imagery.

Even the inscriptions are fascinating. Some employ Gotico-Antiqua, an unusual style combining characteristics of Gothic lettering with emerging humanist forms - a small clue that this masterpiece was created at a fascinating cultural crossroads between the medieval world and the Renaissance.

Standing before it today, more than five centuries later, you realise that the Ulmer Münster isn’t impressive only because of its monumental architecture. Sometimes its greatest stories are hidden in the smallest details. 🤎

The carving depicts a bearded male figure wearing a distinctive folded hat and flowing robes, with one hand raised across his chest and the other beside a small object. A carved Latin inscription appears beneath the figure, while the warm-toned wooden architecture of the historic choir stalls is softly blurred in the background. taken in Ulmer Münster Cathedral by @chrisconcoco

🐒🌿 A tiny moment that made us stop and watch…

During our visit to Augsburg Zoo, we spotted this little monkey sitting quietly on a fallen tree trunk, completely absorbed in its snack.

My daughter was fascinated. Children have a wonderful way of noticing the smallest details — how an animal holds its food, how it sits, how it looks around, and how surprisingly familiar some of its movements can seem.

Sometimes the most memorable zoo moments aren’t the loudest or most dramatic. They’re the quiet ones, when we simply stand together, watch, and let curiosity do the rest. 🤎

🐍💚 A little face-to-face moment with the wild!

At Augsburg Zoo, my daughter was completely fascinated by this beautiful green python. There’s such a difference between seeing a snake in a book or on a screen and suddenly realizing: this one is alive, breathing, moving… right in front of me! 👀

She was especially curious to see a green python in real life - its incredible colour, the way it wrapped itself around the branch, and that little head peeking through its coils. 🌿🐍

These are the moments I love about visiting the zoo: curiosity turns into questions, questions turn into learning, and an animal that once seemed mysterious becomes unforgettable. 💚

A town made for wandering

There are places where you almost automatically slow down. Dinkelsbühl is one of them. Medieval towers rising above red-tiled roofs, colourful façades lining narrow streets and, on a day like this, an almost impossibly blue Franconian sky.
No grand plan for these photographs. Just walking, looking, and capturing the details that make this town feel so wonderfully preserved.

Some of Dinkelsbühl’s best details aren’t at eye level. Towers appear unexpectedly between rooftops, ornate old inn signs stretch across the streets, and flowers spill from windows above you.

Sometimes the photograph is simply waiting for you to notice it.

A golden angel marking a brewery dating back to 1728. Elaborate wrought iron. Weathered roof tiles. Timber-framed houses that have watched generations pass beneath them.

It’s these smaller details that give an old town its character. They remind you that this isn’t a historical backdrop. It’s a place that has been lived in for centuries.

Terracotta roofs, pastel façades, green shutters, pink flowers and grapevines heavy with fruit. Against the deep blue August sky, Dinkelsbühl almost seems to have chosen its own colour palette.

And somehow, despite all that colour, nothing feels staged.

Not every visit needs one defining photograph. Sometimes it’s the collection that tells the story: a tower glimpsed between houses, an old sign above the street, sunlight catching a vine, or simply looking down a street that has existed in some form for hundreds of years.

A few impressions from a summer day in one of Franconia’s most beautiful old towns. 🇩🇪📷

A little piece of film history in Wolframs-Eschenbach. 🎬💧

More than 50 years ago, the medieval streets of this small Franconian town became the world of Der Räuber Hotzenplotz.

The film was shot here in autumn 1973 and released in 1974, with Gert Fröbe as Hotzenplotz, Josef Meinrad as the magician Petrosilius Zwackelmann, David Friedmann as Kasperl and Gerhard Acktun as Seppel.

Wolframs-Eschenbach wasn’t just a backdrop. Local residents appeared in the film and were even credited as performers. The town itself is mentioned as “Eschenbach” in the story.

Today, many of the old streets, walls and little details are still here. Walking through the town feels a bit like stepping into a childhood story, especially when you come across places that have barely changed since the cameras were here in 1973.

Sometimes all it takes is an old fountain and a single drop of water to bring the story back to life. 💧📖

There are places that don't ask for attention, they simply wait for you to notice.

A small cabin stood quietly in the middle of an endless green meadow, with snow-capped mountains watching from the distance and the sky painting stories with drifting clouds. For a moment, time slowed down. No noise, no rush, just the gentle reminder that some of life's most beautiful moments are found in the simplest landscapes.

Sometimes, the best destination isn't a place on the map. It's the feeling of peace you carry home.

A quiet Easter moment where the world pauses and simply reflects. The still water, the endless sky, and a path that leads nowhere and everywhere at once. Renewal is not always loud. Sometimes it looks like this. 🌿🐣

A rare and intimate moment in the garden: a peahen (Pavo cristatus) standing protectively with her chicks.
Often overshadowed by the peacock’s display, the peahen is a remarkable example of quiet strength, vigilance, and maternal care. This image captures the elegance of Indian peafowl in a natural, calm setting, highlighting the bond between parent and offspring and the beauty of everyday wildlife encounters.

Observing birds like this up close reminds us how rich biodiversity can be, even in familiar environments.

🌧️🐦 Singing in the Rain – Hausrotschwanz Moments 🐦🌧️
Spotted this beautiful Hausrotschwanz (Black Redstart) today, undeterred by the drizzle, perched proudly atop a weathered lamp post, letting out its melodic call into the soft rain.

Even through the hazy curtain of summer rain, it held its ground—fluffed up, alert, and vocal. These little urban edge-dwellers are such fascinating characters. Often nesting near buildings and making use of human structures, they remind us how wildlife can adapt and thrive, even on the margins of our spaces.

🔹 The male’s deep charcoal plumage and vibrant rust-red tail stood out strikingly against the lush, blurred backdrop.
🔹 Watch closely and you’ll often see them bob their tails—a signature Hausrotschwanz trait.
🔹 A quick song in the rain? It’s likely a territorial call or courtship effort—proof that nature doesn’t pause for bad weather.

📸 Sometimes, the most ordinary places—like a rusty pole in a quiet field—host the most intimate wildlife moments.

Stillness on the Water
Caught this tranquil moment at Hellabrunn Zoo — a lone bird perched gracefully over the gentle ripples, its reflection as calm as the scene itself. Nature has a quiet poetry if you stop to listen.
