I slogged through making my own AI tools for my restaurant for about a year. The biggest issue was connecting the data reliably from Toast to Claude. Before this, you could download reports and re-upload (time consuming) or you could go the browser route (unreliable). This is an MCP and it changes the game. Comment TOAST and get the connector and the walkthrough for free, now. by @chriscusack_

Claude started the project automatically, subbed out its own agents, I logged into Sysco, confirmed, and it placed the order for me—it also price checked and offered alternatives to a couple items I don’t normally purchase. Comment SCORE for a free assessment tool to learn how to integrate AI into your restaurant. Y’all crush it this weekend at your restaurants. by @chriscusack_

And then Leila throws you out into the streets of Las Vegas. Share this with a restaurant owner who recently said that no one wants to work anymore. Cc: @hormozi by @chriscusack_

Kitchen ordering used to take 6 to 8 hours a week across my two restaurants

This week I ordered for both locations in 30 minutes.

I spoke my inventory into my phone. My tool checked my pars against this week’s PMIX and every costed menu item, sales, and existing pars, and then placed the order. I approved it at the end.

It’ll get better from here!

This year I cut hourly labor from 21% to 16% of sales and didn't fire anyone.

I set a sales-per-labor-hour goal, gave every job code its share and built the schedule to hit it. Then I checked it every morning, first by hand at 4 AM, now with three tools I built in Claude.

1. Fired chicken sandwiches into a crowd at midnight on New Year’s Eve, out of a PVC pipe, with a leaf blower.
2. Taught myself HTML and CSS so I wouldn’t have to hire a web designer (20 years ago)
3. Vibe coded a whole suite of restaurant management tools because the ones I wanted didn’t exist yet.
4. Cash-flow financed a new location while in the middle of opening another.
5. Opened three full-service independent restaurants within 60 days of each other.
6. Flew to the other side of the world to fire someone, then flew back.
7. Started a whole new business to solve a problem my restaurants had. Three times:
- A seafood and local produce distribution company. This one was actually cool.
- A print magazine, years after print died. I thought we were starting our own cultural/marketing movement.
- An SEO, AI search and Google review company. (Checkbackhq.com)

Bonus: I dated one of my bartenders. (Only after COVID closed the restaurant. Now we’re married and have a confident and precocious 3-year-old.) What unhinged things would you not take back? by @chriscusack_

Do you hate reports? Me too.

Monday I ran 37% labor. My week came out at 14.8%. (Uh, pre-salaries.) The weekly number hid the two days that hurt.

So I asked Claude to show me last week's labor as a web page instead of a paragraph or spreadsheet. It built it from my Toast data in about 25 seconds: every day against my target, and who was on the clock.

Yes, Toast IQ will run you a labor report. This is just a sample of what you can do.
