Tonight at the @fineartsworkcenter, I had the privilege of introducing the lovely and amazing David Hilliard (@davidthelens) to a crowd gathered for his artist talk. David was the visiting artist in the photo class I taught at @smfaattufts this past spring and is the instructor of the course I'm taking here at FAWC this week. As I said in my intro, David is kind, generous, insightful, and his beautiful work has served as an inspiration for my own photography. Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ 💖

This comment was written by one of my students in the end-of-semester course evaluation for my Intro to Digital Photography class.

Yes, it's a (much-appreciated) endorsement of me as a teacher, but it's also a vital reminder of why representation is so important in every aspect of our lives.

Be out, be proud, share the things you love, and know that you can make a difference in this world.

Today is World AIDS Day, commemorated in the arts community as Day With(out) Art. As an artist and educator living with HIV, it's important to me to remind you that HIV/AIDS is still a global threat - in 2024, there were 1.3 million new HIV infections, bringing the total number of people living with HIV to 40.8 million. Don't let Trump and his administration undo all the work that's been done to reduce HIV infections (down 40% since 2010); with PrEP, testing, and treatment, we can end new HIV cases by 2030. See the links in my bio for more info.

NEW PROJECT ALERT! Over the spring, I was enrolled in "Seeing Pink: The Queer Perspective in Photography," a course at the International Center of Photography co-taught by the amazingly talented and insightful Richard Renaldi (@renaldiphotos) and Ian Lewandowski (@ilewando) and filled with the best and brightest new queer photographers.

While in the class, I embarked upon a new portrait project, photographing members of the queer community at @smfaattufts. While I'm still figuring out what this project will ultimately look like, I love these initial portraits and I'm eternally grateful to those who've agreed to be photographed by me so far.

This project is ongoing (though I've finished my MFA program, I'll be at SMFA for another year as a Post-Graduate Teaching Fellow), so if you're LGBTQIA+ and a member of the SMFA community, please slide into my DMs to schedule a portrait session. And Happy Pride!! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
