I'll start with a photo of a better day with the gang before the Andorra stage of this year's Vuelta. A race that maybe wasn't meant to be for me this year, but strangely still really enjoyed.
What started with a bizarre virus, then raced past my front door, eventually got healthy, 8th on the 19th stage and ended abruptly on stage 20 on the floor with a broken hip.
They scooped me up and an ambulance took me to to the Hospital in Granada, which I have only wonderful things to say about the medical attention I received along the way. Went in for an x-ray soon after arrival and think I was getting bolted back together as the stage was finishing. On Monday night I made the epic journey home and since then @ivonreijers has been taking amazing care of me, Tony, herself and her business. (she is 38 weeks pregnant should add)
 What a woman ❤️
Needless to say this is the end of my season, and after 15 successful Grand Tour finishes, the end of that streak too. So for now I'll take it easy. Construct my G-Wagon, and deal with the looming task of parenthood whenever that arrives.

Thank you so much to everyone that was reached out in the last few days to see how I'm doing. If it's any consolation I think if your going to break a hip, this is one of the better ways to do it. So all will be fine soon enough!

Also, don't look at the last photo if your eating. by @chrishamo_

Hanks story:
About 12 years ago, my 18 year old self decided it was time to get a dog. So I had a quick browse on Gumtree and found a fresh litter of puppies that looked cute enough, arranged a meeting point and drove a few hours to meet a lady in a Pub carpark (Launching place) where I plucked out Hank from the back of a beaten up ute.
I can't remember what breed he was listed as, but whatever it was, Hank wasn't that.

I didn't tell my parents, but I figured nobody could be mad at me when they saw his little face.
Obviously I neglected to train him properly, and he destroyed countless plants and for some reason liked to chew thorough flywire screens. But he's the reason my sister found her wife. So it all gets cancelled out.

Fast forward a few years and I suddenly found myself getting a job as a professional cyclist, which meant moving to Europe. This wasn't really part of my 18yo plan, but he was in good hands at home and over the years he started to age and mature into a pretty easy going "mutt". I think randomly going blind in one eye helped.
Saying goodbye at the beginning of each season was hard but it was so nice knowing he was there waiting at the end of the year.

During the pandemic, he got pretty sick. He developed a massive tumour in his backside. I really thought I'd never see him again. But sure enough he survived the surgery and was there to greet Ivon and I when we got back after 2 years away. But then while we were still there it came back. The vet suggested we try chemo. But it just made him angry and agitated. We decided it was best to take him off it and see our his days happy and comfortable. The vet said he likely had around 2 weeks and when it was his time we'd know.
Then it was time to come back to Europe, we said our final goodbyes. It was horrible. But, sure enough he wasnt going anywhere, and another season passed and there he was waiting at the door a year later. Then another year, and another. What a guy.

Two weeks ago his time eventually came. 4.5 years later he was put to sleep. It's crazy to think of all the things that have happened in his lifetime, but he was always just the same old Hank ❤️
