I have said this a thousand times and I’ll continue to say it until I see a seismic change. I acknowledge recent efforts but insist that they are minuscule in the scheme of things.

All this big grammar is to say I have resumed waking up at 3am to stand at the nearest crossroads, my long juju in hand, and “pray” for the NTA.

What could be more Nigerian than YouTube?
Contrary to what many would have us believe, YouTube is not Nollywood’s problem.

Actually, it is a worthy solution. Right now, YouTube is the closest thing the industry has to a public broadcaster. by @chrisihidero

Dear Friends,
I hope your week is off to a good start.

May I ask a small favour?

My guy Adebola Ogunshina, @deblasanta , is making one of the most significant films coming out of Nigeria this year.

Boys Don’t Sing tells the story of two lonely old men finding reasons to laugh even as death knocks at the door and loneliness and broken bodies are their present realities.

Adebola and his team have completed principal photography and are now in postproduction, striving to deliver a film that will be worthwhile for a global audience.

And they need your help.

I’d really appreciate your support for this brilliant film through this link https://www.oncrowdr.com/explore/c/boys-dont-sing

Please help me help my guy make this really good film. It’s a worthy cause, I promise you.

THANK YOU! by @chrisihidero

Happy 76th birthday, Helen baby.
Mother.
Mama Speedy.
Troubler of Isreal.
One-woman riot squad.

You and I, always fighting; always finding our way back to each other. You’re going to want to have me again in your next incarnation, won’t you? SMH. You really can’t do without me.

You’re my favourite rascal; I do not know a single crazier soul.

I do love you. I’m serious. You don’t believe me, abi? I don’t say it often enough, sebi? When you too you’ll be doing the exact thing I tell you not to do. RME. Better believe me now before I change my mind.

I
Love
You.

I’ll come see you soon, I promise.
Maybe I need you right now.

You rock. by @chrisihidero

I consider Arundhati Roy one of the finest humans to ever put pen to paper, or fingers to a keyboard as the case is these days.

Her first novel, The God of Small Things, is one of the finest pieces of literature you’ll ever read.

A dear friend gave me her latest book as a birthday present recently and I only started reading it this morning. I’m just a few pages in and already I’m blown away by how simultaneously simple and complex her writing is.

The book itself is pretty: well-bound hardcover, fine paper and a crisp font. I love pretty books.

A young Ms Roy on the front cover wrap, leading to an older Ms Roy at the back…stunning.

Long has my crush been on this irreverent révolutionnaire, daughter of a Wild Christian.
Long shall it continue. 😻 by @chrisihidero

Happy posthumous 82nd birthday, dad.
You remain my friend, my father and the example I live by.

You asked nothing of your children, except that we do not spoil your name. It’s an honour to bear that name.

In 21 days, it will be 11 years since your departure. I miss you dearly and I seek no closure. Your memories are a blessing.

Continue to Rest in Peace, dad.
I love you.
And I hope you’re proud of me. by @chrisihidero

I have missed writing for TV.

Watching these two brilliant TV shows has reminded me of what good TV writing can do.

These two shows are largely the same. Lives, limbs and other body parts are being saved and lost in one by the minute; in the other funds, careers, wealth and more are being made, lost, made again and lost again in seconds. While one takes place in the emergency department of a government hospital, the other exists in the offices and floors of a trading company. But what we are watching really is how far human beings are willing to go to save lives or ruin them.

I miss writing for TV. I miss the way we used to run writing workshops a decade ago. I miss being locked down in a hotel for two weeks with 10 other writers and breaking stories everyday, shaping characters, not letting a single beat or scene make it to the board without it literally fighting for its life.

Nothing truly beats great TV. by @chrisihidero
