POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hey all 👋 Sorry for being really quiet on here this year! I better reintroduce myself, before you all forget me! 😄 So, hello!

I’m Chris Jevons - a children’s book illustrator and (soon) to be author-illustrator too! I’ve illustrated somewhere north of 100+ books over the years, which seems crazy! You can see a sneaky peek from a new picture book I’ll be sharing soon 😉

I was SUPER unwell back in January with severe flu, which caused a bacterial infection on my heart, which is why I’ve been so quiet this year. This ended up with a trip to A&E with multiple tests from ultrasound scans, chest x rays and CT scans! 10 out of 10, wouldn’t recommend! 😅 Thankfully I’m 100% better now and I’m busy working on some exciting stuff!

I’m very behind sharing my new books so in the meantime, here’s a few photos of my studio at home. You can see I have pretty incredible views of the Yorkshire dales, perfect for procrastinating or delaying working on my amends 😄

I hope everyone’s having a lovely autumn so far! 🍂

So… Danny Dyer is reading my picture book about rhinos and feelings on CBeebies tonight, and that’s a sentence I never thought I’d be typing. 😂

I’m really chuffed because Rhinos Don’t Cry was a proper team effort from the start. I got to make it with the brilliant @chrisjevonsillustration, who gave Milo, Pickles, Spike-O and their whole world so much personality, and with the lovely team at @bloomsburychildrens, who helped me shape the text into an actual book people can read and enjoy. I couldn’t have asked for better collaborators.

And now Danny Dyer’s reading it! That’s so cool!

Spike-O McCree being read out by Danny Dyer feels spot-on to me — I really feel the team at @CBeebiesHQ took time to find the perfect actor to share the book’s messages.

In Rhinos, Spike-O starts out acting in tough, noisy action movies, but ends up championing emotional literacy and vulnerability — Danny Dyer has had a similar arc in real life. I think it’s such a good choice. I’m a big fan, and it feels like a really big moment for Milo’s story and the series.

I’m away from the UK right now, so I currently have no idea how I’m going to watch it live (if anyone can record it, I would REALLY appreciate it 🤞). It should also be on BBC iPlayer from Saturday for a week.

When I left teaching to try and write properly, I honestly didn’t know if I’d last, or whether anything I wrote would land with anyone. I still doubt myself a lot! Seeing characters and a story I made up one weekend being read on CBeebies Bedtime Stories feels unreal. I love writing picture-book texts, and this has got me so fired up to make more.

If you fancy sharing this news, I’d really appreciate it — it’d be lovely for any young readers of Rhinos Don’t Cry to spot Spike-O on telly tonight. And if you do watch, please tell me what Danny Dyer’s Spike-O voice is like! I’m so excited to see and hear how he reads the book. 🦏💛

Hey all! 👋

Apologies for being very quiet this year, I’ve had a bit of a social media sabbatical! It’s been nice not having to think about hash tags, algorithms and garbage AI 😅 And of course when I log back in, the interface and layout has all changed! Joy of joys! 🙃

Anyway… It’s been a fun and busy year juggling picture books, moving into the countryside and renovating my house. Well, house renovation isn’t fun, but the rest is 😄

I also have some VERY exciting news I’ll look forward to sharing soon! 👻

In the meantime, here’s a few random photos from places I’ve been recently. You may see a slight gothic theme - perhaps a little hint? 😉 I’ll try and get back into the swing of posting (a bit) more regularly.
I hope everyone is doing well! Happy December folks! 🎄
