The ceremony design that took 27 sketches and 3 design meetings.

Originally we wanted bougainvillea but its too difficult to work with so with the advice from @otrocantardecoracion we created the same cascading effect with other flowers.

Seeing all those ideas, sketches and little decisions finally come together felt completely surreal.

I made my mum’s dress for our wedding without a single fitting… and the first time she tried it on was in Mallorca.

That was not the original plan.

I had found a dress I loved and ordered it in my size first because orange is “surprisingly” hard to get right. However it was one of our wedding accent colours, and I wanted something soft and beautiful, not neon.

The dress arrived, I loved it, and when I went back to order it for my mum… it had sold out the day before. The company had even run out of the fabric.

So I thought, what the hell, I will try to make it myself.

My mum wanted something natural, open at the neckline and really light and flowy, so I ordered silk chiffon and started experimenting. The orange on its own was far too bright, but layered over nude silk chiffon it became exactly the colour I wanted.

She sent me her measurements from Denmark. I cut the entire dress from those measurements.

No toile. No fitting. No backup plan.

I added an adjustable waistband so we had at least some room for error, and gave it a small train. My mum was worried someone would step on it, but I knew no one was going to step on the mother of the bride.

The first try-on happened in Mallorca and, somehow, it worked.

She felt really good in it, and I loved that the fabric also tied back to the bridesmaids’ champagne silk chiffon shawls, so everything felt connected without being overly matching.

Still slightly amazed that “send me your measurements from Denmark and I will figure it out from Sydney” turned into an actual dress.
