A piece from 2023 exploring my mother’s experience growing up under segregation. It contains human figure of my mother carrying a purse, standing before two water fountains and deciding which one to use. Being a fair skinned Black woman living in a segregated town, there were times when she had to make painful if not traumatic choices, such as whether to use a water fountain, where to sit in a bus, what kind of job she could get, or dating darker-skinned black men who might get lynched just being seen with her. I have been learning more about her life since taking care of her more due to a stroke she had in 2019 and other cognitive challenges. She is a super upbeat, peppy and good-natured person, loved by many and inspiring in many ways. This piece also deals with my own struggles of identity due to some of our mutual “Segregated Choices”, which is the title of the piece. It was good and cathartic to be allowed to show it in the in an LBCC student art show. by @chrisleephotographic

Chùa Bài Quan temple
Newhope Street, Santa Ana
This is a beautiful temple, worth visiting, with much to see and learn about Vietnamese Buddhist culture and the diaspora. Recently, I got into the darkroom at LBCC to do some photo printing, and it feels very good. I shot these images on one of my film cameras, used some contrast filters, burning and dodging for the prints. Let me know if have a favorite or any comments. Cheers.

Another by as yet unknown landscape artist. Symbols flow together, one path perhaps. How did they do it? Wide, flat sandals and a rake, I imagine. Or was it lasered from space? Is every artist really just a witness, themselves only the brush, hands, strings or shutter? Sometimes i think so. Artist as witness.
