Congratulations to Rancho Las Delicias, 2026 U.S. National Champions! 🏆

The Campeonato Nacional Charro USA this year, held in honor of Roberto Torres Cardenas, was one for the books. More than a decade ago, Rancho Las Delicias was the team that first introduced me to Charrería and opened the door to a world that has shaped so much of my life and work as a photographer and documentarian.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of documenting charreadas, families, horses, traditions, and the growing Charrería community throughout the American West, while sharing that work through exhibitions, films, and installations.

To witness Rancho Las Delicias’ victory at the U.S. Championship here in Colorado was an incredible experience. Seeing the hard work and dedication they have put into the sport, as well as the many ways they have shared their culture with the community, made the occasion particularly meaningful. I’m truly honored for the opportunity to document it.

Congratulations to the man of honor, Don Roberto Torres; the entire Torres family, Pua Elias Gallegos, Pekei Ibarra, @rancho_las_delicias @flordeaguilena Nicolas, Max and Connie Morales, @fmch_colorado, @coordinacion_fmch, all the participating teams and the entire charro family who have supported this project over the years.

Come celebrate the life of Paul Azvedo this afternoon at the 303 Boards Annex in Denver from 4–8 pm, followed by After Party at 715 Club.

I first met Paul back in 2004 or 2005 as I turned my camera toward the Colorado skateboarding scene. He was one of the Wet Boys—the legendary skate crew from Denver, Arizona, and beyond—who took me under their wing as a documentarian, collaborator, and friend.

It was a special time in skateboarding. Unlike today, there weren’t cameras everywhere, and it was a true honor that these cool kids trusted me to capture this unique, carefree chapter of their lives—one centered around skateboarding, traveling, filming and releasing video parts, house parties, young love, brotherhood, and, most of all, friendships that would last a lifetime.
Paul was great. He was a ripper with a unique style and talent on the board, and a kind, gentle soul off of it. Always upbeat and positive, Paul was the kind of wingman you’d always want on your team. He always had a way of putting a big smile on your face when you were with him.

Although our lives evolved and I spent less time with the crew over the years, that sense of kinship never faded. I’m grateful for all those hours I spent with everyone.

Over the past few years, Paul made an effort to get everyone together for lunch. It was always great seeing him, hearing his voice, and listening to the stories he would tell. He loved sharing his latest adventures, talking about his girlfriend Rosie and the puppies they shared together, but most of all, he loved talking about his daughter, Dagney. The skateboard features my photo of John Alison aka Dana ( RIP ) doing a Frontside blunt at Northside Skatepark in Ft. Collins. The image was taken on Go Skateboarding Day back in 2012. See how much John popped his front blunts in the following shot of the sequence on the 2nd slide. So much style!
