Happy birthday to the wildly successful, Essie Summers who was born on this day in 1912.Pictured here with her husband, the Presbyterian minister, the Rev. William Nugent Flett. My favourite facts about Essie in our overview of her life on our website are that she started primary school (at Linwood North) at the age of four "out of sheer cussedness" and that she knew she wanted to be a writer after her teacher read them "Anne of Green Gables".
