Asymmetrical Balance in practice.

Front = direction and authority.
The off-center part adds tension and keeps the eye moving, while the top is intentionally pushed through the crown and back.

Sides = precision.
The triangular edge creates movement.
Pointed sideburns introduce speed.

Neckline = diffusion.
A soft release through the center, framed by a sharp perimeter.
So the structure doesn’t feel forced.

If everything is sharp, nothing stands out.
If everything is soft, nothing holds structure.

The contrast is the design.

Showcased:
Two intentional haircuts at different lengths with sideburn variations.

Cut 1:
Done knowing my client wanted a short haircut that would last as he moved to a new city.
Before committing to that length, I wanted to show him what I would do if this were my hair and I were his barber. Something creative, but still suitable.

Cut 2:
The agreed direction.
A short haircut designed to last and evolve.

Why I chose this cut:
Before touching length, I identified problem areas that would affect how the haircut grows out.

• His sideburns grow denser and faster than the rest of the head
• His neckline grows irregularly, right to left

This answered where I could go short and where I needed to preserve length.

Considering my client’s strong facial features, I chose a soft, round silhouette on the top, back, and sides using layers. This created balance with his features and allowed for a long, transformative grow-out.

The tapered sideburns buy months of wear.
The subtle nape disconnection creates needed structure and weight to control his irregular neckline growth, avoiding a forced taper that would require maintenance within two to three months.

What I left him with will, if needed, last and evolve for up to six months.

The perfect haircut for this client.

Will the Jedi Braid make a run in 2026?

In 2019, I said the mullet would come back. By 2021 to 2022, it did. Not the Billy Ray Cyrus version, but a more polished, intentional, and creative take. This created a shift in barbering. Barbers were forced to learn how to cut length with intention. If you could not, you risked losing clients to someone who could.

In 2023, @aridonnel and I were already looking at what was next in hair. The mod. A more artsy, fashion-forward haircut that prioritizes motion over control. Built with layers and designed to evolve, the mod lasts longer, requires less maintenance, and carries more personality than a traditional fade or brushback. By 2025, the mod is officially in.

So what’s next in 2026?

Accent pieces and creative disconnections will begin to make themselves present, not for shock, but for identity. When I first started cutting, accent pieces were mostly for content. Clients rarely left the chair with them. Now people want hair that says something. Something with character, not just something clean or crispy.

In 2026, I can see accent pieces and creative disconnections becoming more common as a form of creative expression for both the client and the barber. By 2027, I see those ideas evolving into longer, intentional disconnections, like the Jedi braid or rat tails, used as personalized signatures rather than trends.

As much as I’d love to see it, the Jedi braid might be too soon for 2026. I could see it happening, though. Once again, I think Ari is just early to this one.

At the core of all of this is evolution. Barbering lived in fades. The top was trimmed, not designed. Precision barbers leaned into brushbacks, often relying on graduation on every canvas. Mullets changed that, forcing barbers to truly learn how to cut length and introduce layering as a necessity. That understanding transitioned into the mod, where movement became the focus. Now we are stepping into disconnection. As barbers learn more cutting methods and techniques, we gain more freedom to express ourselves creatively, and in turn, allow clients to do the same.

2025 was my most exciting year in hair. Grateful to everyone who supported me. taken in Westwood, Los Angeles, California by @christiancutmeup

Consultation.
The second level of trust.

The first level happens the moment they decide to book with you. The consultation is the second.
This is where trust deepens and a relationship is formed.
It’s where they feel if you really hear them.
Where they sense if you know what you’re doing and that you care enough to guide them through it.

Consultation isn’t just small talk.
It’s the foundation.
The cut starts and ends here.

Consultation is key!
For any questions while cutting and/or styling refer back to the consultation.

Content.
Not only important, but key.

I rarely post but when I do it’s thought out. It’s intentional.
The aesthetic, the feel, the story… it all has to line up.
That’s usually what makes me post less.

Part 1 w/ Hobby went “viral”.
Here’s some “content” that was intended to be a Part 2 but wasn’t “good enough”, from 2022.

Now, fits the aesthetic, the feel and has a story behind it.
A reminder how important content can be when growing your business.

Content Tips:

DONT post just to post.
BE intentional when posting.
FAKE it til you make it. Joking, but not really.
Post what you believe is your best work.
BE REAL. taken in Los Angeles, California by @christiancutmeup
