🪷~ Containment ~ 🪷I’m turning the page on a full season of life that demanded a lot of me. My husband has been living away on a military posting for a year while I raised our boys in another city. 🌱 Psych Masters, teaching and recently navigating a house move on my own. I’ve needed to be on my A game 🌷As a total extrovert, I never thought I’d find this but I didn’t learn to be stronger or fit more into my day. It’s already full of everything I wanted. But what I’ve found the most necessary in this season was containment. Containment of energy. And ultra running helped me see it in a very simple way. That means for me saying no to extras, going to bed religiously at 8:30, taking my greens, doing the quality one on one time with each child every day, keeping everyone clean and washed. It also means keeping small things cooking for myself and keeping it neat, simple and what works. If I’m putting energy into something, it has to have a greater purpose. Family, health, contentment, space.💗 Sometimes it was bloody hard… The low points…. and I’d put my hand on my heart and remind myself that I have everything I need right inside here, so long as it’s something that keeps us flowing 💗Our family will be back together this week and I’ll get my weekend longys in with friends and have time for more extras and flexibility. But I’m pretty stoked to have adapted in this season, I wonder what the next one brings. To the single parents out there, I salute you 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻📸 @brandon_calder_ @runningmumsaustralia @thefemaleathleteproject @tarkineathletics by @christielori

🥈Ultra-Trail Kosiuszco 100 Miler; 5,300 vert. 🎆 What a wild ride ✨🪩What a Vibe!! First miler 🎉Went to the moon and back in 3 days - how different everything about Kosci was compared to my normal life.Starting at midnight perth straight from Perth summer to 5 degrees. 🌪️🌪️ Omg, it was clear to me after 30kms that I would need to be just really gentle on myself and clear expectations and use this as a learning experience - I would run the conservative game. My anchor was “Stay within yourself” ⚓️Every time I felt like I wanted to get into higher HR or rush a check point. Noooope Christie “stay within yourself for this one”. I felt comfortable within myself. Run don’t race.Troubleshooting… First major one was up to Kosci I lost 50 per cent vision. Determined as to be doing this thing there was no way I was stopping, otw down my face and hands swelled and fingertips went blue. 🩵Luckily Husband Dr Tom was at the next CP… it’ll pass. This happens, Christie when you go from living at sea level to 2228m in one day. 😝3 hours later I could see properly. Yay I do wonder if I med tented would they have been so generous? 🤣😝Relatively cruisy run into bullocks. High fives and fist bumps. Around Guthega must’ve stated feeling it (see pic 12). Double head lamp fail @ Bullocks (130). Trail community!! A couple gave me theirs. Rian🙏☮️ Took down number, final 30 kms…My crew!! Donna… a moment for Donna!! You’re amazing. Village green the last 10km!! And the 50km ers had said how hard that section was. I was not stoked about the last 10km. @d_balanced gave me a big hug and said “I’m giving you all of my energy”. 🙌🏻🌸❤️Alex. Aww there he was Alex curled up asleep in his oodie in the dark next to the gear with a tail wind bottle in his hand. 🥹🥹 I was getting it done… For Alex!! Up and over eagles next. Clunky stairs. At 40, two questions I’ve learned to ask myself after I do anything is “Did I grow as a person because of this?” And “Did I feel truly alive?”. Big Yaasss to both. ⚡️So many thank yous… @megatron_brown @tarkineathletics @caitlinscott_physio @classicbertz @trailiens @thetrail.co by @christielori

🥇Guzzler 100km (105), 4600m vert1st F, 6th HumanGuzzler weekend - Home turf for me. The vibe is so special ☀️Thank you Tim and Laura! Less than vanilla build moving to Perth midway from a military posting. Lucky for me - my girl (coach) @megatron_brown just keeps programming.Hubs away on service, out of contact and was worried about support. Enter @megcoffey_ , @benmillen who had me taken care of the whole time and in the lead up. Knowing I had mega experienced trail crew supporting me let me do my thing on the day. I couldn’t do it without the enormous help watching 2 kiddos in Perth @classicbertz @phillori @mjlori @breanna.jade and 1 in Brisbane @tina.james_buyers.agent @h_a_n_haynes It took a village. Once your mind is right, everything else happens smoothly. The race itself: On waking, eating game began. 3 X sourdough bread. Every picture through the day I’m eating and I’m stoked with that. I probably started too quickly with a 5:30 first 50, however, I felt good and wanted to put myself in the mix. That was MY course. Noah’s ark - eat two of everything. I started getting hot by Manchester (57km) and was soo happy to see Meg and Ben. The back 60-75km is a real stonker. Township just gets me every time, pace slowed. Ran out of water solidly, coming into McAfees I subbed a can of soda water like I was 22 in college. Seeing Ben, Dave and his kids at McAfees I was flagging but they sorted me out. Not sure what was put in/out of my vest but it was the right thing! On my way home, pumped to see @coach_jodietully and @trailiens @95kms. I did stop and have a chat then raked myself up Kokoda. Litchfield cutting 7.5 min kms hurts the heart when usually done in 5 but I thought come on Christie let’s go - all these people waiting at the finish are ready to go to bed and so am I. 😂😂 No one was prouder of me that day than my son at the finish.Best.Day.Ever 🙌🏻Shouts:Friday training mates on the podium @zack.newsham @ollie. You guys fly.Physio Bris @caitlinscott_physio Perth Dan @valetudofitnessandphysio Keeping this postpartum perimenopausal body sorted.Gear @adidasau @salomonausnz Playlist - 13 solid hours Thank you @shokzaunz by @christielori

🏃‍♀️ Athlete Spotlight: @christielori We're incredibly lucky to have some phenomenal athletes lining up at The Guzzler Ultra this July. Over the coming weeks, we'll be introducing a few of them and sharing their stories.First up is Christie Lori—a runner who has quickly become one of the strongest performers on Brisbane's trails. Her Guzzler journey has been nothing short of remarkable:🥉 2024: Christie lined up for the 100km just months after moving to Brisbane. It was her first official ultra marathon, and she stunned the field by finishing 3rd overall.🥇 2025: She returned stronger than ever, claiming the 100km title in an incredible 12:54:33.Her success didn't stop there. A month later she won Transcend 65, before taking on the world-class field at Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko, where she finished an outstanding 2nd in the 100-mile event. This year, Christie is swapping triple-digit distances for something a little shorter, taking on The Big Sipper 21km. Expect to see her chasing a fast time on Sunday—and if you're around on Saturday, she'll also be out on course volunteering with her run club the @trailiens on South Boundary Rd.We're excited to welcome Christie back for another Guzzler weekend and can't wait to see what she can do over 21km!#TheGuzzlerUltra #AthleteSpotlight #TrailRunning #UltraRunning #BrisbaneTrails by @christielori

🌷Margaret River Ultra 2026🌷Always good vibes and huge community feel thank you @rapidascent. So many friends running for so many amazing causes - too many to count. Stoke!! Huge appreciation for children’s entertainment at the end 🥳🙌🏻Big special shout out to @crystaldaniels, my Monday training partner starting every week right at Boldy. She is a mum of 2 and finished the grand slam 🥇That’s both the 80 and the 42. And she came 3rd at the 80. So inspired by you Crystal and your preparation - in and out of different countries! My mum @classicbertz, we got to celebrate Mother’s Day together! And team MR Trail runners for accepting me as a honoury local for the weekend to finish Leg 5 @katielovis1. I couldn’t quite get @megcoffey_’s segment time after a build week so maybe left something out there 🤭😝😉@tarkineathletics Bandicoot - shoe of the weekend and perfect for the course! From the west coast to the east… Now that we’re both @tarkineathletics athletes does that mean we “work together?” 😉Super exciting to welcome @megcoffey_ to the team and take baby Tahlia to the place where quads are made at Mount Coot-ha. We would’ve taken more Picts but we got hungryy 😝@megcoffey_ @tarkineathletics@runningmumsaustralia by @christielori

Buffalo Stampede 2026 Start line feels. What an awesome trail and event. That was probably the best bit of the day 🥹 Had major gut issues from very early ending with a first aid submission at 66km Chalet. This is ultra racing - pushing limits right near your ceiling. Luckily I’m a mum and psych, along with an ultra athlete. That means I have learned to fail fast, do what I would tell my children “guys you got through 66km on no fuel and a sore tummy I’m so proud of you” or “you really put yourself out there, tha takes courage. Was it the outcome I planned for? No, but I can also say it doesn’t have to mean too much. It’s one data point with just as much meaning as any other and just move on 🧘🏻‍♀️I truly believe mistakes are a huge part of the path to progress and where we learn the most. Lucky me 😝Learning 😉Today was my day for that. I loved my time in bright with my trail family. I am so proud to toe the line with epic athletes. I don’t believe it was a lack of fitness - I had a great training build thanks to @megatron_brown and my legs were strong @huwdarnell. I had great crew @kaylewis44 💕😍!! I also have awesome sponsors @tarkineathletics.These big events over east regardless of outcome do have you reflect and learn. I think I’ll keep the stakes low for a bit, keeping with local events. Sort out whatever is going on with my stomach and keep doing what brings me joy - Running 💕💐☺️Thanks everyone for your support!!! by @christielori

Transcend 2025 🥇- 67km and 2800m vert A late sign up 2 weeks out. My mum @classicbertz had said to me something profound like “Christie, these are the good old days” … combined with a solid sense of FOMO…got me thinking … even though I was a bit fatigued… I could still give it a crack and have fun. Then the epic Transcend set up at the finish meant my kids could have a ball with their cousins. All those reasons hit my motivation for running it ✅Family ✅Community. The advice from coaches and physios being so close to a race @theguzzlerultra I had just gone all in on was to proceed with caution and “No redlining”. Joy and Confidence. Running can provide the feeling of joy you felt as a child at a playground with all your friends. Thats where I kept coming back to every time the mind wondered to the deficit in the quads, the Guzzler fatigue from early on or the falling over. But then I would focus on how lucky I was to be out there, feeling alive and well with my whole family around, playing. 🌅These really are the good old days 🌅Mitch, Shane @transcendtrails and all the people along the journey made it the most amazing platform for bringing people together in Whadjuk and Ballardong countries. I’m super proud of @Angekierath for sinking her first ultra and my dad and @mjlori as crew - all Class (second pic)… They know I love a long chat so when I get to the check points they move me quickly. Erika, I will hold this baton for you just for this year ;) 📸 @patrickboerephoto; Camera crew @robgoyen @transcendtrails, @ejloriCoach @megatron_brown Physio Perth Dan @valetudofitnessandphysio ; Brisbane Caitlin @milton_physiotherapy Club @trailiensAfter Guzzler I had mad bra line chafe on my back thanks to @squirrelsnutbutteraustralia I was able to back up and not a scratch X by @christielori

Buffalo Stampede 2025100km, 5000m vertical gain, 12:55, 4th F.The run: First run of 2025 and (touch wood here) It’s the first time I’ve had the fortunate experience of running exactly what I thought it would be despite not having seen any of it before. Not surprised and not disappointed… To the plan and what I’d trained for, not more or less. What a great feeling 😆😉 I had my niggles crop up and dissappear (hip and knee) and my gut issues to sort after starting a bit too intensely, but I also had the benefit of training lots of vertical in Coot-ha, D’Aguiler Brissy to Roys Peak/Ben Lomond NZ which paid off so there were peaks and troughs throughout the run. The one bit that caught me by surprise was the amount of technical down hill… Brissy doesn’t have a lot of that and the other girls seemed to really take off from me… I had to fight the mental frustration that comes with the learning curve and losing an ankle… much work to do there. I left my soul down middle track 😆My community: I’m so grateful to my coach fellow Queenslander @megatron_brown, my amazing parents @classicbertz @phil.lori showing all class in their crewing ability, @zack.newsham with the goods first time pacing, @helen.keegan.90 as my training partner, @trailiens hills sets and comraderie, my tiny support superstars and my adult ones @legrand_339 @gmmerritt. @singletrack_events thank you for an outstanding event. Well marked, beautiful location and I appreciated the gentle but distinct acknowledgement to female space on the start line. I’ll be back 🤙🏻. Being a mum who runs: It’s a real art… getting it right and it’s not easy. It’s harder than the hills or the gut issues. Whatever level runner you are, it’s this real internal struggle to give yourself the permission to be in this space and do what we do. Having my kids there, involving them and yet also I stayed separately so I could have my space to honour my process. The reality is - I’ve a weeks worth of washing to do now, my house is messy and I’m on dinner 😆Thank you to the village who helped support our family - the list is very long 🥰❤️. by @christielori

Bibbulman Stage Run 🥇 .~ Camaraderie, Fun, Finish Strong ~.Stage 1 17.5 kms Stage 2 25.5 kmsStage 3 22 kms.🏃‍♀️Such a great weekend put on by Sam and the team @rapidascent. It’s one of the most enjoyable runs I’ve done this year and really captures accessibility, nurturance for up coming trail runners and camaraderie giving the full high enjoyment of trail running. .💝I’m super proud of my friend @kelfearbomb for going 0 to 17.5km in less than 12 weeks - Absolute legend, one of the most coachable, inspirational people I’ve ever met! I’m proud of @drjesse.clifford doing from 0 to 17.5km in one hit. And I’m proud of their husbands @branddv @the_raver for running with them side by side and then both continuing to finish the 3 days. ✨It takes bravery to get out there for the first time and discipline to mentor ✨.👩🏻‍🤝‍👨🏼It’s really what trail runnings all about and I was blown away by the other husband wife teams out there and all the kiddos at the finish line. Trail running 5 years ago was 80/20 men and women and this was super close to 50/50. Yaaaaas 💪🏻.✅✅✅Personally, I used the run to try new things with my nutrition, gear (notice less black 🤭) finish strong and have fun. Tick, tick and tick. The bling at the end was fabulous and I’m excited to try some @tarkineathletics shoes for the first time..🥰As usual, thank you to my team of physical support @themethodpilates @pain.2.performance @bodytrackep @megatron_brown @corrie.endurancecoach @pelviology @trailiens and mental @legrand_339 @ejlori @mjlori @classicbertz @phil.lori and everyone for the supportive messages! You guys rock!! ..➡️On to the next one @buffalostampede_au by @christielori

Guzzler 100 2024 🥉105km and 4,800m vert. 🇦🇺Moving to Qld with our 3 young boys on an army post in Jan, I wanted something totally Brisbane to train for and to meet someone to train with. This was it. The Guzzler and the Trailien crew have just absolutely made my year. ☀️It was more than the day - the last few months, I have never been short of a running buddy. I’m so grateful for this running community for embracing a new kid on the block. Race dayI had ITB issues in the lead up so was a bit worried how it would hold up (the knee brace) I went slow on the downhills for the first half. Every hill I could hear @corrie.endurancecoach and @caitlinscott_physio telling me to hold back, go slow and use your poles early. Which was super hard to do as I normally hammer my downhills. I stuck to the plan and it worked. The first 65kms I felt good and cruisy and well set up, until i hit Township. The gnarly downhills had done a number on my toes and I think that downhill claimed at least 2 of them. Climbing out of township took me forever and I ran out of water and was going slower and getting frustrated.Luckily I had the most adorable crew @helen.keegan.90 waiting at McKafees with everything I ever needed and got me back out and feeling better. I cruised home feeling like a local as the last section we had done on a night run a few months ago with @trailiens, even though my head torch broke and I had to hold it in my hand. I had wanted to finish, podium and get under 14:30 (the prev. record) in that order and I got two of the three so I’m happy with that. The event itself is a must do - it’s so incredibly well marked and well run, no lines, well supported and the environment is beautiful. There were butterflies out, ferns and palm trees - it was like running in the land before time. Without your toenails and your legs on fire and you get a few drops of water every 4 hours. The perfect day. 🌴Thank you to everyone that helped me in the lead up! @trailiens @corrie.endurancecoach @pain.2.performance @caitlinscott_physio @bodytrackep @themethodpilates @helen.keegan.90 @d_balanced @theguzzlerultra and always @legrand_339 I’ll be back next year 🥰 by @christielori
