I felt like we lived two months in the last two weeks.

We went from celebrating one of life’s highs — a well-deserved retirement of one family member — to one of life’s lows — to mourning the passing of another.

This weekend, we lost my mother-in-law, Marlene — a beautiful, elegant and vivacious woman with a wicked sense of humor. She was fierce, extremely loyal and protective with a strong sense of right and wrong. At 93, she lived a long, full life. She loved dancing, music, musical theatre, bridge and golf. Remarkably, she had two hole-in-ones after the age of 70. But she especially LOVED her grandkids — including my Ben and Riley.

In recent years, dementia slowly and horribly dimmed that fire. From time to time, there were moments of clarity, of that wicked sense of humor, and of the woman that I knew and loved.

My sister-in-law told me that with dementia, we mourn the person twice: their spiritual passing and their physical passing.

We hope that now both her body and soul can fully rest in peace. We love you, Marlene. ❤️🕊️ by @christiely

We traded in selling Girl Scouts 🍪 for 🍿 to help Ben tackle his first season in Pop Warner 🏈 with @beachcitiessharks.

It’s the only fundraiser for our team and lasts only 5 days! So if you love popcorn and football, please support Ben and his team! Go 🦈! Thank you!!

First day of school >> Last day of school

First year of middle school is in the 📚. It wasn’t easy, but we survived. 🙌

They’re excited for the time off from school and I’m excited for a break from being their driver 🚗.

An incredibly heartfelt, fun and emotional 5th Grade promotion. 😢👩🏻‍🎓👨🏻‍🎓

I still haven’t fully processed that Ben and Riley are now finished with elementary school. We are so proud of who they’ve become and grateful for our community in our little part of the world. 💙💛

But time is both a blessing and a thief!
