One day in December 2025, whilst I was at @brigittetanaka for a pop-up, a woman came and tried my perfumes. She seemed taken with them; we agreed to meet up again after the festive season and swapped our Instagram accounts, only to realize we were already ‘following’ each other. It took the gentle warmth of summer for us to finally meet again. Since then, @christine_gurtner has been like a fairy in my life. Christine paints details. Details of skin, hand, face, clothing, designer labels, seams and boning – often from a bygone era. Just as a surgeon dissects to better understand anatomy, she paints the part, perhaps to better understand the whole. Christine paints from photographs cut into squares. Square by square, enlarged to a different scale, she loves to lose herself in their abstraction. This careful observation reminded me of *The 79 Squares* (Malcolm J. Bosse), a book I adored in my youth. Everything about Christine’s work moves me, and I cannot say why. All the better. Tant mieux. #mesamiesontdutalent #artlovers #christinegurtner #artpaintings by @christine_gurtner
