How do you say goodbye to your best friend of over 16 years. You take her to her favorite place and watch one last sunrise. You give her steak and cukes, and pet her beautiful soft face when that time comes for the final goodbye. From the moment I adopted Shelby from @arfhamptons in August 2009, she was a whirlwind. Never stopping, up at 4:30am for thousands of beach walks at sunrise, sneaking into the garden to eat her favorite green beans and cukes, pushing me with all four paws to the edge of the bed so she’d have more room. I never could have imagined that we would get to celebrate her 17th birthday…but we did in grand style this past January. What a life we shared…she was the smartest and best girl in the world…my soul dog. My heart is completely broken and I will miss her everyday, and I so hope that there is a Rainbow Bridge out there somewhere. Shelby January 2009 - May 2, 2026 by @christinesaar

When I picked up this wild Puerto Rican youngster from ARF in August 2009, I never imagined that we’d be able to celebrate her 17th birthday. But here we are! 17 years old and still wild and crazy, albeit a lot slower and with a serious limp. Happy Birthday Shelby! by @christinesaar
