My last UCLA procrastination…

This past December, I graduated from the #1 public university in the country. The only Black man in my class to graduate in Electrical Engineering that attended UCLA from freshman year through senior year. But for the past few months I’ve been in a weird spot where it didn’t feel right celebrating this accomplishment until I figured out what was next.

But looking back I can truly say I’m proud and thankful for my 4 years at UCLA that wouldn’t have been possible without my family, friends, fraternity brothers, and mentors. Throughout my time at UCLA I always considered myself an “A Minus Student”, and having graduated with a 3.71 GPA that sentiment is spot on. It wasn’t because I didn’t try to get A’s or that 4.0 quarter, but because I knew I was always going to make time for those “other things”.

Things like the intramural basketball movement that was the Splash Bros, joining the coldest fraternity, making songs in De Neve Studio that will never see the light of day, dancing in culture shows that I have no heritage to, and so much more😂 This is what makes me proud of these past 4 years, not just that piece of paper that says I sat through some classes. It reminds me of a saying that got me through some very difficult times, to “Savor the pulse of life more intensely”.

I am thankful to have savored that pulse. Grateful to have met the future “uncles” and “aunts” to my children. Proud to have ran the yard with the most golden and zealous Gamma Xi chapter. Appreciative of all those late nights studying or partying (or both). Blessed to have my family that supported me through it all.

I can now say with confidence I’m proud to celebrate this journey, and will continue to savor the pulse of life as I’ll be moving to New York to get my Masters Degree at Columbia University!🗽#ivyleagueStophe taken in University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) by @christophe.charless
