Much like birthday wishes, I like mentioning album releases late when the dust settles!
I had the pleasure of recording, mixing, and mastering @hapacello and @carolineadelaideshaw ‘s duo project “or, The Whale.” This collection of pieces feels like it exists somewhere between a the stasis of a patchwork (see “Really Craft When You”) and the passion of an epic (see “Moby Dick”)—perhaps that each epic is sewn into the quilt giving us both a bird’s eye view and a front row seat to the drama! I really see this play between the stillness of distant observation and the dynamism of emotional engagement in the track “The Trees of Green-Wood.” I hope everyone enjoys the mystery and approachability of this album. Big Hearts to the duo for being so lovely to be with and to @weareplatoon for supporting important work!

@davidlangmusic ‘s “note to a friend” really shows his genius in composing libretti. It’s all based on a letter Ryūnosuke Akutagawa wrote to a friend explaining why he was going to commit suicide. The resultant character is overly self aware, quirky, dark, funny, and kind parochial at times. I don’t think there is or could be a better artist to vocally realize this character than the inimitable @theobleckmann. Meanwhile the @attaccaquartet brings ferocity to even the most delicate moments. I could say more but it’s all right there in the recording.

I’m honored to have helped out @iamkelseylu with her multi-movement video piece “this is a test”. Most of the footage was shot live from @theshedny. It was the first set of performances there since the onset of the pandemic. I feel all of that ambivalent pandemic energy in this piece: the regenerative and destructive stages of both closing and opening. Besides Lu’s diehard artistry, this piece is evidence of how beautiful collective effort can be in times of difficulty.

@catherinebrookman ‘s LP “ if a song fades out, it’s playing forever somewhere” has been out for a lil bit and I hope yall will listen. The album is warm tone piece focused on Nature, Heartbreak, and Portals; for example, when we’re in experiencing deep hurt a shower can be a portal to a mountain.

I was able to see this baby from conception to walking out the door and do so with some of my favorite people. Thank you everyone involved for your true hearts.

With a swollen heart I’m happy to say that @nire_bird “Tropical island Love Asylum” is out and is out there and is in there too. Nire comes in with some powerful and weird arrangements that we craft together…amidst the layers of obscure production there’s always a gem shining brightly. She takes us on a dark journey through psychology, relationships, and the club all as a magical mystery tour to the Tropical Island Love Asylum…

Nathan Schram and Shahzad Ismaily released “a moon stands blank above” a mediation on loss. I was able to record, produce, mix, and master this piece which was a labor of love with some dear friends (@lesterst.louis, @elliotcole, and @matt_evans_online included). I hope people take 35 minutes during a train ride, a walk, at an airport or staring into the void of their eyelids at home, and listen to this one like a short film. Actually, Nate made a short film for it which I also hope people watch but with their eyelids open staring at the void of a screen!
