New painting! ‘Dark Matter’. Oil on linen. 75x50cm. Oh my hat, this is fucking good if I say so myself. However this and other paintings of this ilk have got me to wondering if I’ve somehow entered into a Faustian pact? Yeah Chris, you can paint but you can only do great paintings if they’re bags of shit that no one in their right minds would want. Really happy with the two styles of painting to create a depth of field. If anyone else is combining Richter style blur painting against post Impressionism to create realistic paintings, I’d like to meet them! #oilpaint #art #shit #gerhardrichter impressionism by @christophercampbell1975

Given that 2026 seems to be going backwards. Bit alarmed at @hm latest look. Does seem to be channelling a dark bit of history for inspiration!😬 by @christophercampbell1975

New painting! ‘Mercy Buckets’ oil on canvas. 18”x24”. So this had the title before I started. It’s a malapropism of merci beaucoup 🇫🇷. This is the last of this sort of thing for a bit, am ready to get into my Greek series of paintings. (See earlier post) #art #oilpaint #oilpainting #landscape #figurative by @christophercampbell1975

So, dunno if anyone has this. Last year, I thought this was shit. However it’s grown on me, knocking back the background has helped. Now has a look of being photographed by an old school digital camera with flash. It’s still a tricky piece as it’s not that obvious what it is. If you’re scratching your head, it’s a tree stump covered in a bin bag. Obvs. My question is this, if money were not an issue, would you hang this on your wall?🤔 #art #oilpainting #oilpaint #landscape #nature by @christophercampbell1975

So. I’ve been to Greece for a holiday. The hotel was was luxurious beyond belief. However running in the morning light I saw some truly inspiring things. The unsanitised bits that I’m always drawn to. I’ve been looking for a new subject to paint and wasn’t expecting it to be Greece. But there is so much to go at here. I’ve got one more litter painting to do and then I’m closing the book on that chapter for a while. Can’t wait to get my chops into these!…#greece #inspiration #art #photography #landscape by @christophercampbell1975

Reworked painting! ‘Matterhorn’ 24x18”. This was headed for the bin last week. But I had a weekend away where I kept thinking about it. Think going to both Tates in London really helped. I attacked it with an encaustic wax medium and a lovely purple. Started off with Richter-esque approach but it became something different. Using cotton buds I pulled the highlights back out and then finished with a flinging frenzy. I actually like this now. Dunno if the photos do any justice. I’ll post an equally shit video to hopefully show it better. The original is at the end for comparison btw. #gerhardrichter #oilpainting #oilpaint #encaustic # art by @christophercampbell1975

New painting! ‘Living with the stain’. Oil on canvas. Is a pretty lurid colour palette which I’m good with. Only used 7 colours. If yer interested I used Old Holland: titanium white, green umber, cinnabar green deep extra and Indian yellow green lake extra. And in Michael Harding: Moss green, emerald green and brilliant pink. That is for the nerdier painters out there. Original image was a white van daytime photo, so enjoyed messing with the colours. Might add some rust to it. Undecided at moment! #oldholland #michaelhardingpaints #art #oilpainting #oilpaint by @christophercampbell1975

Reworked painting! ‘Impending’ oil on canvas. 18x24”. This is a painting from a photo I took at Reykjavik airport a couple of years ago. It was originally painted with a ‘northern lights’ feel but as much as I liked the sky it didn’t fit with the ground. It’s always a risky move to go back into a finished painting but I’m glad I have. Swipe to the end to see how it used to look. And @kate__folk this fine gentleman doffs his cap to you! #oilpainting #airport #skydaddy #landscape #iceland by @christophercampbell1975

I don’t know who I am style wise sometimes. I do tend to bounce between impasto post Impressionism and something nearer photo realism. Dunno if that’s a problem but I don’t like to tie myself down to just one thing. I probably just about prefer the realism outcome but enjoy the looser painting more. by @christophercampbell1975
