Hooray for Blaxcell Street Public School, Eleebana Public School, Medowie Public School, Queenwood Junior School, St Aloysius College Junior School, Vardys Road Public School.
These are the school that made it to the FIRST state finals of the NSW Readers Cup and I had the privilege of being present for the revealing, to chat to all (of course), and to present the wonderful medals to the winning team. Congratulations Vardys Road Public School - and to their star librarian too; they were rather happy winners. Fantastic organising by the NSW branches of the Childrens Book Council and the School Librarian Association.
And what a thrill to see all the parents and grandparents and caregivers there to support their wonderful readers!

Remember young and older - share your reading!

It was wonderful meeting today yet another amazing Teacher Librarian, Mrs Abed Ali, from Blaxcell St Public School whose #bookweek costume was BEAR from #bearandrat - how absolutely glorious.
It's awesome seeing Bear and Rat out in the world.
Thanks oodles for sharing this.

And hooray for our brilliant Teacher Librarians who share the love of books ALL through the day. We can't do without YOU!

Wonderful afternoon for a quick chat with @_fredachiu_ (that's part of one of her books in the photo background), swapping all sorts of creative tales and goss.
Lots more to come.

We begin with a hush and apprehension.
We end up being loud and wriggly and laughing.
Oodles of fun!

It's always wonderful in these classes for Uncle Christopher, reading and making up stories ... and receiving this wonderful decorated ThankYou card - Woo Hoo.

As well as talking to parents I have a blast telling stories, and making up hilarious new stories with the kids.
One of the preschools created these two welcome posters.
They chose the poster with the smiling kids to display.

So now I introduce you to AI me - at least one version of me!

I have been in Hong Kong lately for days and nights filled with busy-ness that included spending one evening talking to Learning Habitat parents about reading to kids and the challenges the parents face, from choosing the right books and where to read them, right through to how often to read books to / with kids. And yes of course there was demonstration time. Note that parents react the same way that kids do to some of my books.

Shrugging my shoulders like this only happens during action talking!

And after so very many trips to Canberra and visits to the National Library of Australia and the bookshop there I FINALLY get to snap a photo with Mike - super bookseller.
It's about time.
Great chatting and quick catch up.

It was 60 years ago today that the iconic Australian children's television program PLAY SCHOOL made it's way into our lives and late last century while I was at Taronga I was one of the privileged guests to appear on the show. And I still have the tape (and letter) of that complete episode which I uncovered snuffled in the bottom drawer of one of my cupboards!
I also have very clear memories of the chaos that the critters I brought along in the Zoomobile created, my Monty, and Big Ted - thankfully it was during rehearsal ... but Rosie and Sophie (possums) they were stars! As for me.... well no more needs to be mentioned.
What a privilege!

So how long can you spend sitting in a coffee (or then outside a coffee shop when it's closing time) and talk about books and creating them and festivals and libraries and schools and travel and fun in this glorious city and then even more about books and creating them? Well for hours and hours and hours if it is with my friend Serena Geddes @serenageddes_creative and the International School of Beijing's amazing teacher librarian Bec Taylor, @becinthelibrary.
