For everyone who’s asked, our little old house withstood the storm. We were very lucky the lower level remained dry and water-free, as did the backyard studio and garage at the bottom of our slope. It’s an awful time for so many and I hope they can recover quickly. by @christywright1

The summer issue of @styleathome is out now and it’s a beaut! I write about a new-build that @knappinteriordesign transformed into a serene entertaining space - lots of ideas to steal in this one. There’s also great outdoor design inspo, fresh recipes from @christineanneflynn new cookbook (the dill pickle-poached cod is so good) and much more. In other words, perfect weekend reading. ☀️

I have a lot of fun assignments but one of my absolute favourites is writing for @kabincanada (and not just because they give me a coverline). @colinandjustin are the best to work with and they trust me to come up with an edit of my favourite things for each issue. Current picks include a @hotheadshairbrushes that transforms hair and @frenchcowboyparis perfume co-created by @alliegoodbun. She’s a remarkable young Canadian woman who, like countless girls took dance classes, but, unlike countless girls, went on to forge a career dancing @moulinrougeofficiel. The spring issue is online now and it’s a beauty.

Life update: after decades in Toronto, we’ve upped sticks. We sold our condo and moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake where we bought a place last September. It’s a bonkers little house but we love it and are renovating it to make it our own. In an extremely rare turn of events, the renos are behind schedule 😂. So we’ve moved into a rental where we’re spending our days pretending to be easygoing, patient and not champing at the bit to move in. In the meantime, I will be inundating my stories with endless pics of NOTL homes, sites and scenes. You’ve been warned! by @christywright1

We bought a house in Niagara-on-the-Lake! To say it needs some TLC is a Jurassic understatement, but it’s in the Old Town on a pretty street. There’s even a little studio in the backyard. We’d been looking for a while and luckily I have an amazing realtor @evanjwrightsnaps who found this little gem.

I’ve been a fan of @thepearlehotel since it opened in 2021 and returned recently for another lovely stay. The lake views dazzle, the beds are comfy and the food @isabelle_restaurant embraces a Mediterranean spin. Its patio is so pretty day or night and they pour inventive cocktails (I started with a spicy cucumber margarita). Burlington is a charmer too, with walking trails, an art gallery, botanical gardens and a sweet little village square. I write about The Pearle for @styleathome (link in bio) and though I didn’t visit the spa this visit, it is fab too.

The Liberty Inn in Caledon has quickly become one of my favourite places. It is charming (not just because of its thoughtful design). Every plate and mug is hand-crafted by co-owner Jacqui Liberty, all of the art is local, the gorgeous green kitchen and bathroom tiles in our suite were handmade in a nearby ceramics studio and all of the delicious, all-natural toiletries are made in Canada 🇨🇦.
There are only five suites and we stayed in Florian - its sunken bedroom was part of the original 1855 limestone structure that was once the area’s first post office. The fridge is stocked with fresh eggs, milk (dairy and oat), strawberry jam and ready-to-bake croissants for an easy breakfast. There are very good restaurants nearby but we decided to stay in for a dinner of boeuf bourguignon made by the local butcher.
There is a Nordic spa, bookable so it’s entirely yours, where you can subsume yourself in a cedar hot tub, sauna and cold plunge or just sit by the fire and listen to birdsong. When you venture out, there are picturesque hamlets and parks to be explored and a lively community of independent businesses. @thelibertyinn is just over an hour from Toronto and it is a place you should know.

So happy to contribute to the summer issue of the award-winning @watershedmagazine. My assignment was to capture the beautiful life that @mykeywood and @dirwoodmcdarkleson have created for themselves and their dogs in The County. And it was no small task as these two are lifestyle superstars in the best possible way. It’s online now if you’d like to read about their magical home and gardens.
