A Gilroy chiropractor is now facing criminal charges after patients reported being touched inappropriately during treatment, and police believe there may be more victims. Gilroy Police say they are investigating allegations of sexual battery against Dr. Robert W. Kovacs, who runs the Gilroy Health and Wellness Center on Wren Avenue. According to police, detectives received information from patients who reported being inappropriately touched by Kovacs while under his care. Police say the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office has formally charged Kovacs. He’s expected in court later this month. Some questions still don’t have answers: • How many patients have come forward? • How long ago did the alleged incidents happen? • Was Kovacs still treating patients while police were investigating? Anyone who believes they were a victim, or has information about this case, is asked to contact Corporal Tom Larkin with Gilroy PD Investigations at (408) 846-0425 or Thomas.Larkin@cityofgilroy.org. Kovacs is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. If you have firsthand knowledge of this case or were affected, my DMs are open. This report was filmed in Moss Landing California, not Gilroy. #Gilroy #GilroyNews #SantaClaraCounty #BayAreaNews #SouthBay by @chrizcerney
A memorial is growing on Jetty Road in Moss Landing for two Salinas boys who lost their lives in Monday’s shooting: 15-year-old Marco Antonio Perez and 13-year-old Nathaniel Flores. Nathaniel’s youth football organization, Steinbeck Football & Cheer, has started a GoFundMe for his family to help with funeral and memorial expenses. They knew him as Nate, a Steinbeck Tigers player who would have turned 14 this Friday. The fundraiser is called “In Loving Memory of Nathaniel Flores,” and you can find it by searching that title on GoFundMe. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened shortly before 2 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. Two other people were injured. Detectives are still investigating. The Salinas Union High School District says counseling and emotional support are available to students and staff. It asks the community to respect the families’ privacy and avoid spreading unconfirmed information. Anyone with information can contact sheriff’s detectives. Tips can be anonymous:

Salinas restaurant owner says staff are afraid after some suspected a customer was an ICE agent The owner of Las Islitas Grill on West Laurel Drive says a customer’s unusual questions and behavior raised concerns among employees on Monday. Two employees reported seeing the letters “ICE” near the man’s collar. Owner Eduardo Garcia Ramirez says the man seemed like a normal customer at first, then began asking questions: when the restaurant gets busy, whether its customers are “more Mexican, more white,” and how many nights it has karaoke. He left, and when he came back later that afternoon, a frightened waitress locked the front door. An eyewitness described a black Chevrolet sedan parked outside and reported seeing the man pull on the locked door, knock and walk around the building. Ramirez says the restaurant later received more than 20 phone calls, with the caller ID showing the same name the man had reportedly given employees. Ramirez says two cooks told him they won’t come in to work this weekend because they’re afraid. Whether the man was associated with ICE remains unknown. Security footage shows him inside the restaurant but does not establish his identity or any affiliation with law enforcement. I’ve contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and have not received a response. 📍 Salinas, CA 🎥 Reporting by Chris Cerney #Salinas #MontereyCounty #ICE #Immigration #LocalNews by @chrizcerney

Someone called 911 from a Pacific Grove payphone and never gave their name. Police arrived to find a man murdered. 31 years later, the caller has never been identified. On the night of March 4, 1995, an anonymous caller reported a possible medical emergency at an apartment in the 300 block of Grand Avenue. Officers found the front door forced open and signs of a struggle inside. Richard Coleman had been beaten and strangled to death. His body was in the kitchen. Days before, his apartment had been burglarized. Whether that was connected to his murder has never been publicly established. No arrests have been made. The Cold Case Project of Monterey County says investigators are examining the physical evidence, and that modern DNA techniques may provide a link to Richard’s killer. His family has never stopped looking for answers. Who made that call, and what did they know? If you have information, contact Pacific Grove Police at (831) 648-3143 or the Cold Case Project of Monterey County at coldcasesmonterey.org. Note: Sources differ on Coleman’s exact age, and the precise police response time is unclear. The public accounts reviewed do not identify the anonymous caller as a suspect. New video sent to my tip line captures a foot chase near Natividad Hospital in Salinas. A man in a vest marked “POLICE” is seen running after another man along Constitution Boulevard. Jose Chavez, who shared the video, says it happened around 7:31 Sunday morning. He identifies the pursuer as an ICE agent and says the man being chased had just been released from the Monterey County jail. The video doesn’t show how the pursuit began or ended. 🎥 Video: Jose Chavez Have video or information?
