POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Now available via Bandcamp:

billvanloo.bandcamp.com

All these tracks have been slowly accumulating over the past few years; a group of deep downtempo electronic beats that felt like they hung together. Featuring Bill Van Loo’s signature drums and rich organic textures, each track has a story to tell and a mood to set.

As a special bonus, the final track is a live performance of all these tracks performed as one continuous mix at Ziggy’s in Ypsilanti, MI. by @chromedecay

Today is Bandcamp Friday, so I wanted to drop a quick reminder that my most recent release is available. Purchasing this EP supports 3 great organizations (info below) and buying today helps all of the money go directly there instead of Bandcamp taking their (well deserved) cut first.

All proceeds from this album will go to fund the efforts of several organizations to empower and bring about a shift in equitable access to electronic music.

AFRORACK™: A Chicago-based audio arts organization with a goal of helping the community develop and thrive through technology resources.

We are committed to providing children and young adults of color access to modular synthesizers and sound design tools.

https://www.afrorack.org/

Underground Music Academy: a Detroit based hub, which aims to build the future leaders of independent electronic music.

https://www.instagram.com/undergroundmusicacademy/

North Coast Modular Collective: a Southeast Michigan-based non-profit, working to increase the skill, knowledge, and accessibility of electronic music artistry through the development of music, instruments, and community.

Music is one of the ways in which I personally frame and order the world. I hope supporting these organizations, through funds raised by this release, can make a difference in bringing that experience to others as well.

Bill Van Loo's new release, "heavyweight trouble", is now available on Bandcamp. You can buy it today, or wait until Bandcamp Friday tomorrow, when Bandcamp skips taking their cut and 100% of the proceeds will go to the causes discussed below. It'll hit the streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and others over the next few weeks. Link in bio.

The word “trouble” can have a negative connotation - being in trouble, causing trouble, being troubled. I have certainly been troubled living through the past four years of American politics. Being troubled has a relationship to being conscious of your surroundings and environment and sensing what’s wrong.

The word "trouble" also has a relationship to stirring up or uncovering, however. The traditional Black spiritual "Wade in the Water" talks of how God is going to “trouble the waters” - to stir them up, and make them ready. The late Senator John Lewis talked about getting into “good trouble, necessary trouble” - taking a stand for your convictions and what's right.

As one way to let good trouble guide me, all proceeds from this album will go to fund the efforts of several organizations whose mission is to empower and bring about a shift in equitable access to electronic music.

Today’s mini-project: made a custom TRS-A to TRS-B mini jack cable for the @squarpinstruments Rample, and added a simple headphone splitter. Now the @arturia_official Beatstep Pro can connect to this 58HP skiff with just one cable, and sequence all 4 channels of Rample plus have two pitch-based sequences (thanks to the @busycircuits mmMidi module converting mini jack MIDI to CV/velocity/gate signals). Makes for a much more portable and clean setup compared to all the patch cables - this eliminates 4 cables for Rample (one per channel) and 3 cables per channel of the Beatstep Pro’s two sequencer channels. by @chromedecay

44HP micro percussion case. Bass drum and snare from Plaits, using modulation from Pamela’s New Workout to move between modes. @northcoastmodularcollective Flint Fader is used to affect whether Pam’s stays on the bass drum model or allows it to switch (using the fader into a CV input on Pam’s). Noise does double duty, going through a triggered LPG as a hi-hat kind of tone, plus being jammed through the OR switch along with a few other signals to give an odd wash of noise. #eurorack #modular #percussion by @chromedecay
