A BIG bear doing bear things on my Altadena lot last night

(Known as The Guard Bear of North Lake, he has been known to charge at local tree killers, thieves, developers, and other disaster capitalists.) taken in Altadena, CA by @chumipaul

Maile and I said goodbye to the remains of our home today. We thanked her for her big, beautiful windows that showed us nature on all sides, for sheltering us during hot and cold days, flash floods and windstorms, for keeping us safe and secure and for being lovely. We thanked our chimney for remaining upright and strong through 74 years, many earthquakes, and an inferno. And we apologized that we were unable to save her after everything she had given to us. 🥺🙏❤️ taken in Altadena, CA by @chumipaul

No words or emojis can sufficiently convey the immense relief I feel that my daughter and I have a private and peaceful temporary space in which to regroup during the biggest crisis of our lives. Like so many people right now we needed a stroke of luck badly. Thank you, thank you, thank you @moderncaliforniahouse @davidacoffey and @josh_gorrell_earth 🙏🙏🙏

I took this video from my street at 6:58pm January 7th, 40 minutes after the Eaton Fire started. The wind was blowing the fire in our direction. The ignition point was 2 miles east of us. I took the second pic at 7:16pm, 18 minutes later. All my neighbors were frantically evacuating at that point. We had not received any notice of the fire from authorities taken in Altadena, CA by @chumipaul

We are devastated. We loved our home and our community SO much. Trying to feel grateful for the time we had here. Thank you to every one who has reached out. It helps. 💔 photo by Nick Riehl taken in Altadena, CA by @chumipaul

This male Canyon Bat has a severe wing tear but he may be releasable in a few months, as bat wing membranes can regenerate. He seems to like mealworms so I’m going to give him a chance 🤞 taken in Altadena, CA by @chumipaul
