Talking small church production and media

POSTS STORIES REELS

I recently have noticed a lot of churches switch up how they create their sermon reels for social. Decided to give it a go myself, and I’m a fan.

I play guitar at my church most Sundays, and I’ve been working on a new on-stage talkback mic system.

Now, this mic can do almost anything haha

I can talk to the band, the media team, or even route my mic through the main mix—all with BitFocus Companion and a Stream Deck Pedal.

And that’s just scratching the surface.. I made a youtube video breaking down the entire process in case you want to try something similar.

Just comment “mic” and I’ll DM you with more info.

I also made my companion pages available for download if you’re interested in taking a look or copying some of my buttons to your own Companion pages

Would love to hear if anyone else has done something similar to this! 👇👇

No full time production director? At a lot of smaller churches, mine included, that job lands on one person who isn’t on staff.

The Church Notion System guide is how I documented every media role at my church, and how other churches have done the same. It all lives on one Notion page your whole team can open, with the resources and checklists for every role.

Comment GUIDE and I’ll send it to you. by @churchmediatraining

Turn any role on your media team into a checklist a volunteer can follow, without typing a word.

Record a voice memo talking through the role. Sound, cameras, ProPresenter, livestream, even production director. Paste the transcript into ChatGPT or Claude with my free prompt, and it builds the whole checklist for you.

About 15 minutes of talking and 5 minutes of pasting.

Comment PROMPT and I’ll send you the prompt.

Last Sunday I wasn’t at my own church.

I was filming for a Methodist church here in town.

Their sanctuary is over 100 years old. Stained glass. Carved wood. A grand piano worth more than my car. Very traditional. Very churchy. In the best way possible.

And here’s what struck me while I was there:
They didn’t want trendy. They didn’t want flashy.
They just wanted one honest video.

Something a first‑time visitor could watch and think,
“Okay. This feels like my kind of place.”

Because even a 200+ year‑old church has the same problem every church has right now:

People meet you online before they ever walk through your doors.

They want to know what the room feels like.
They want to see people their age.
They want to get a sense of the vibe before they show up.

So that’s what we filmed.

A normal Sunday.

The contemporary service. The traditional service.
The choir warming up. People greeting in the lobby.

A simple “here’s who we are and what we care about” from the pastor. Nothing fancy. Just real.

That one video will be their 24/7 greeter.
On the website.

Featured on YouTube.

You don’t need haze machines and LED walls.
You don’t need to turn Sundays into a show.

But you do need a clear, honest way for people to see who you are before they ever visit. by @churchmediatraining

FORGET ABOUT PRIME DAY

Spend your money on this instead.

This is not a prime day deal, but my church just picked one of these up because we had a need and the price was unbeatable.

Crazy value for the money. You agree? Yes or no? 👇 by @churchmediatraining

All jokes… or are they? 🤷🏼‍♂️😂 by @churchmediatraining

Threw this setup together in like 10 minutes, but I also got to test out the full set of SIRUI Vision Prime 1 lenses.

For this video I used the entire kit:

24mm T1.4 paired with a Sony a7siii
35mm T1.4 paired with a Sony A7iv
50mm T1.4 paired with a Sony a7siii

I’ve really enjoyed putting these lenses to use over the last few weeks. Seems to be a quality lens set for the price.

For the color grade I threw on a @phantomluts, made some adjustments, then topped it off with a bit of @dehancer.film 🤌

If you want to learn more about the SIRUI VP1s along with my entire video kit:

Using the Stream Deck Pedal for talkback control 🎛️

I’m triggering up to 6 different routing options with just 3 pedals—thanks to long press functions inside Companion.

Middle = Band
Left = Media Team
Right = Band and Media Team
Right Hold = Main Mix

It’s a super flexible way to manage comms on the fly—way beyond a basic A/B switch.
