one of the things I’ve come to love about this work is that people approach me and ask me all kinds of questions: what’re you doing? What is this for? Why are you doing this?

It’s been an incredible way to enliven this history and connect with people in the moment.

STUDY FOR A QUEER MONUMENT: MONUMENTS MARCH FOR FIFTY YEARS OF PRIDE (20 JUNE 2026; NE BLOCK AT MAIN ST & BELL ST, DOWNTOWN HOUSTON, TX)
This Monuments March celebrates 50 years since the first unofficial Pride parade which took place on 20 June 1976. At the corner of Bell St and Main St in Downtown Houston, a few hundred people gathered at the parking lot of The Exile and rounded the block. Their marching steps began the tradition of Houston’s Pride parade.

Please join me at the NE corner of Main and Bell in downtown Houston this Saturday, June 20, in celebration of 50 years since Houston’s first unofficial Pride March.
Come dressed up, bring music, be you!
I’ll be starting at 11 AM. Bring thread to contribute to a community-built sculpture to commemorate the first ever Monuments March!

‘STUDY FOR A QUEER MONUMENT: FOR RESIDENTS OF RICHMONT SQUARE (1400 RICHMOND)’

Community built temporary monument and picnic. Cotton thread, bells, paper notes, wishes, food, and friends.

This performance honors those who made lives and homes where Richmont Square once stood. Formerly 1400 Richmond, it was a refuge for many in Montrose. A place where queer life gathered, persisted, and belonged.

As part of this performance, participants are invited to write a wish and hang it on the thread.

Excited to share that as a member of @box13artspace, I’ll have two works in our upcoming annual fundraiser: Empty Box 2026!

You can snag this painting, along with a bunch of others by a cohort of amazing artists! The funds raised by this event go directly to support our ability to host other artists for exhibitions and programming.

Join us the evening of May 9, 2026, at 7:00 PM!
