This is going to be a pretty lengthy post. Sorry about that.

TLDR:
Churro passed away last week. I'll miss him so much and I thank everyone that got a chance to meet him for letting him make you smile.

Nowadays, I mostly try to avoid sharing personal things on social media, but because he's been such a big part of my life and has met a good number of you, I felt like this was worth sharing.

Last Tuesday, after bringing Churro into urgent care and discussing our options with the veterinary staff there, Churro's mom (Michelle) and I made the difficult decision to spare Churro from any further pain and to say "goodbye" to him.

To honor Churro and the impact he had on friends and strangers alike, I just wanted to share some things about Churro:

Churro wasn't what we were expecting when we first got him. I think we were so used to how goldens are portrayed in media/Youtube/IG, so we were expecting a fluffy, chubby, energetic pup who loves to be in the water. When we first went to get him, he was the last male puppy, whereas we were told there'd be plenty of male pups to choose from. We only saw female puppies running about being rambunctious, but we eventually spotted him. He was just napping outside by himself and looked much smaller than his sisters. I felt a bit cheated at the moment, but Michelle saw this as an opportunity to help him. On the car ride home, Churro was sound asleep while being cradled by Michelle and her mom in the back of the car. It was only a day later that we had to take him to the vet because he was very low energy and vomiting. Of course, he'd end up recovering quickly, but it took less than 24 hours for me to realize just how much I wanted to take care of this little guy.

The first night home he had a hard time adjusting to being in a crate. He was whimpering away for a while before I decided to go lay next to him. I really wasn't sure if it'd work, but I was so happy and surprised to see that it calmed him down. by @chyobot

I’ve been working on @land_of_anthology for almost as long as I’ve been doing concept art professionally (almost 20 years..). Although it’s always been a “side-project”, I recently took it upon myself to make it something more. Life’s too short, and the fact that I keep coming back to this makes me feel like I need to dedicate more of myself towards it.

Over the last 5 months, I’ve done some fun world-building, storyboarding, some writing/examining of the characters, and of course copious amounts of visual development. There’s still a lot to figure out, but I feel like the scaffolding is starting to come together (mainly having a grasp of the characters, the world, a narrative arc, and the core aspects of the art direction).

Regarding the image: Even though I’ve been keeping this project pretty close to the chest, I felt like there’s no harm in sharing some older/out-dated work. This was an extremely early mood piece I did in an attempt to capture a slice of the world.

The design of the character is in a very different state now and the visual treatment of the environment has changed quite a bit. But this was a fun piece and I think it still captures the spirit of the world and things that go on in this world (there’s a bit more to it than just floating rocks and nature).

I’m hoping to share a bit more in the near future. But for now, here’s a very early version of one of the protagonists, Abby!

Last weekend I went to the @minnmaxshow meetup at @stoupbrewing_capitolhill ! I've been a fan of Minnmax (you should check them out!) for a while and had the pleasure of meeting some of the community members and cohorts of the show!

I did some doodling during the event while handing out some @dodgebrush_podcast stickers here and there. 😊 by @chyobot
