OVERJOYED. Words will not do this moment justice but I must gather them to share just how honoured and excited I am to be joining @pepperdine as a full-time assistant professor of theatre in the fall. When I moved here in 2023, God put me on an unbelievable journey in search of purpose and community, and this tenure-track position at Pepperdine is the most awe-inspiring culmination of that.

I’m so thankful for the search committee and everyone single staff, faculty and students at Pepperdine who believed in me, my writing, my teaching philosophy, and passion for what I do with this craft. I cannot wait to nest and grow alongside you.

Thank you to my village, and most especially @lisaanneporter6, @theeincredibleholt , and @bashfordron who’ve supported me with the most beautiful letters of recommendation. I couldn’t have done it without you.

Thank you @actsanfrancisco for providing me with an artistic home in the Bay, and a place to be in process and in tune with the craft. STC in 2025 quite frankly changed the course of my life.

Thank you to the theatre department at @fullertoncollege who opened their doors to me, gave me my first adjunct appointment here in Southern California, and a kind trusting confidence.

And thank you to all the theatre companies, schools, and arts initiatives who’ve welcomed me as a teaching artist since grad school. You know who you are and how much I love you!

And to my students, you lot are absolutely terrific. I’ve learned so much about the mystery of art with and through you.

Lastly, I’m chuckling because my mother’s mother, vovó Antônia, was born in 1922 in Rio de Janeiro. She had 13 kids including my mama. She raised them all to be wonderful human beings, my family. She never learned to read nor write. She was a fierce country woman and one of the wisest women I’ve ever known. Now, from heaven, she’s probably smiling at her grandson, Professor Guimarães, over here. Her Portuguese was so country, she couldn’t pronounce Wesley right. So she’d call me by another name: Edinho.

i love everything that’s happening right now. mum told me to stay humble and be grateful and never keep my head down. every moment, every bow is special and it feels earned somehow. lucky to be here and to have met this crowd. i meditate in the morning, repeat my affirmations out loud. i’ve been praying daily, sometimes twice a day, it’s wild. no matter how lost, how far from beauty, how lonely the journey is… there’s still so much good to be found. life is good. life is good, child. both my grandmas would have been so proud. so worried about everything else that’s going on. yet so proud. remember “full of sound and fury”? the youth in not knowing. spring came around already, wow. often crave sighing with others. i really like the sound. there is still room for cream and sugar and possibility. life is good. life is good, child. 🫡 taken in Los Angeles, California by @ciaowes

Je suis convaincu d’une chose: le talent, ça n’existe pas. Le talent c’est avoir l’envie de faire quelque chose. […] Et je crois qu’avoir envie de réaliser un rêve c’est le talent. Et tout le restant, c’est de la sueur, c’est de la transpiration, c’est de la discipline. Je suis sûr de ça. L’art, moi, je ne sais pas ce que c’est. Les artistes, je ne connais pas. Je crois qu’il y a des gens qui travaillent à quelque chose, et qui travaillent avec une grande énergie finalement. Et l’accident de la nature, je n’y crois pas. // un homme passe sa vie à compenser son enfance.

‘tiny father’ by @mike_lew_asian_playwright closed tonight at the @geffenplayhouse and I couldn’t have been more thankful for this beautiful introduction to Los Angeles theater. What a dream come true to be in the that house in collaboration with such an incredible cohort of artists and theatre makers. Shout out to @annhuactor for being there for it all as we got to know these characters. What an honor. And shoutout to my manager for being open to my manifestations always. Happy Mother’s Day to the most incredible woman I know. I owe you everything I know and everything I am. It’s been 5 years since my last mother’s day at home and God only knows how hard it is for the two of us to be apart. Thanks for being the coolest best friend I have for the past 22 years.
