„Hello everyone! ✨

My name is Ciara, I’m from Texas, and I’ve been enjoying this dance for 11 years now. I’m fascinated by movement and how everything connects, from the mind and body to the feeling and flow! I especially love finding deep grooves and living inside a deep, heavy bassline. 🎶

My favorite part about shuffling is seeing people get lost in the music, trust themselves, and let their personality shine. :)

Round 1 or 2?🤔✨ Thursday sessions this month at @austinshufflehq kicked off tonight

@juan40bpm was to my right dancing. He kept going more rounds, so of course iiii had to keep going too lol.🙄 lol this past week I’ve gotten some really fun battle mock rounds in with @gill_movesss too, and also had an insane sesh with @shufflerin_. 🥹🫶🏽 we’re literally just bouncing all that energy off each other, self, and with music. It’s a wild phenomenon. All these said rounds were not caught on camera hahaha but it’s okay. For the life mems. ✨

If you’ve ever asked “What do I do with my arms?”, this class is perfect for you.

This class is also perfect for any seasoned shuffler who’s looking for practical activation tips to get your flow going. Arms / upper-body is everything!🙌🏽

My philosophy behind activating our arms and shoulders, is that it’s not only necessary to embody the full momentum of our dance, but it also speaks to reaching that top level of flow we all want. Freedom, flow, and expression all start from the activation.

In order to FEEL our embodied flow, we need to understand where we can expand.

We need to practice / lab creative ideas. 💡

I absolutely love these Tuesday night ⭐️Next Step⭐️ classes, because they never look the same... and we truly lab & create so much together. The growth is real. 🥹🥹🥹💫

When Texas declared independence from Mexico in 1836, my ancestors had already been rooted along the Rio Grande for generations.🥲🌵♥️ This humble home reminds me of the sacrificial and hard beginnings my family fought for, and I’ll explain why… 😅 buckle up for some truly uncensored Mexican / Texan history LOL ⬇️

In 1767, long before Texas was a state or Mexico was an independent nation, my 6th-great-grandfather, Juan Pantaleón Yzaguirre, was granted 5,737 acres of land by the Spanish government. He then married María Gertrudis Vela, the daughter of neighboring Grant land owner, Lazaro Vela, who was granted 6,000~ acres.

^^ FUN FACT: “María” remains in all of our women’s bloodline names to this day… including mine.🥲

On September 16th, 1810, the Mexican war of independence began with the first ever GRITO battle cry given by Father Hidalgo, a powerful symbol of rebellion and freedom!! 😭 After winning in 1821, my ancestors instantly became Mexican citizens and founding members of the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, with their sitting right on the northern frontier. On top of that, Native Americans (Indigenous Mexicans) were the absolute BACKBONE of this Mexican War - and I’m proud to say I’m also from the Lipan Apache tribe. It’s extremely common for Tejano families today to be descendants of Indigenous and Spanish blood like myself.

By 1836, the infamous Texas Revolution took place when the Republic of Texas gained independence from Mexico. The Rio Grande border turned into a lawless land as two nations fought over the border, aka my family’s homeland.

In 1848, the Mexican-American war ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This is when my family instantly became US citizens under the new border establishment.

WOOOo! To end this…

Sept. 15th marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, and Sept. 16th (aka Mexican Independence Day) marks freedom with the first ever GRITO battle cry for war!

Today I honor my ancestors, the original founders and freedom fighters of Mexico and Texas.

And I celebrate and honor that we are still on our land today, long before the US!
