Now, I can't imagine ever putting down my pencil and paper. Drawing has become my anchor in the chaos of life, the one thing that consistently makes sense. Continuing from my previous post, I eventually landed a job in graphic design once more, working alongside one of my dearest college friends. We shared both good times and the unique bonding experiences that come with working in a creative environment.

When the pandemic struck, the studio emptied as my colleagues sought new opportunities. However, I chose to stay, avoiding the daunting task of job hunting once again. Working from home during this time gave me more freedom, but it also left me with moments of boredom. It was during these idle hours that I rediscovered the pure joy of drawing. I soon realized that art isn't just a hobby; it's a vital part of my life, something I couldn't do without. I yearned to transform this "side passion" into a full-time pursuit.

Let me share a bit about my artist name and why I chose it. I've always created art from an emotional place, using each piece as a form of meditation to overcome life's obstacles. That's why I found the word 'cicatrix' to be a perfect fit for my artist name. It represents the beautiful, silky scar that remains after a deep wound has healed—a reminder of strength and resilience. Yes, it might sound a bit emo, but it's more than just a phase, Mom; it's a genuine expression of who I am, and I cherish it.

I hope you, too, find joy in my creations as much as I do. Here's to never abandoning our true nature and passions again. by @cic.a.trix

Artistry has been an integral part of my life since my earliest memories. During my school years, my aunt recognized my passion for drawing and generously supported any artistic endeavor I pursued. I owe my artistic journey to her unwavering love and the invaluable encouragement of my art teachers.

In 2013, as I embarked on my college journey, I faced a pivotal decision: should I further hone my artistic skills or explore a path that would ensure a stable future? I ultimately chose to study Communication Design, a decision I wholeheartedly embraced. Yet, I couldn't resist the call of my artistic soul, so I also delved into illustration electives to nurture my creative side.

Fresh out of college in 2016, I sprung a surprise on my parents by announcing, "I am moving out with my boyfriend, tomorrow." We embarked on a daring adventure, leaving our hometown behind for the vibrant and artistic city of Cape Town. Our goal was to break into the creative industry and establish our names. In Cape Town, I shifted my focus from drawing to design, working at remarkable companies that enriched my skills and knowledge.

However, life took an unexpected turn, and we found ourselves longing for the familiar comforts of our hometown. This homesickness led to a challenging period of depression. Back in our hometown, I faced the daunting task of finding work once more. To ward off the demons in my mind, I slowly rediscovered the joy of drawing. My sketchbook filled with whimsical doodles and ambitious unfinished artworks, some of which still rest in my art chest, untouched by time.

Reflecting on my journey, I wouldn't change a thing. My time in Cape Town taught me invaluable lessons about myself and honed my skills, which I now apply daily in my design work. by @cic.a.trix

My passion lies in the macabre, comic books, anime, horror films, and, most notably, the captivating world of pulp posters and books. by @cic.a.trix

THE HOPS MUST BE CRAZY | HAZY IPA | 6.5% ABV

The Hops Must Be Crazy is a limited-edition Hazy IPA brewed in collaboration with Yakima Chief Hops, OC Brewery, Chopper One Brewing and Capital Craft Beer Academy.

The star of the show? HBC 1183, an experimental hop that has never been used outside the USA, alongside Nectaron HyperBoost, which has never before been used in South Africa. Both were made possible by Yakima Chief Hops.

Pilsner Malt | Chit | Spelt | Oats
HBC 1183 | Nectaron HyperBoost | CryoPop
WHC Thiol Unleashed | 6.5% ABV

Tasting Notes:
An immediate burst of vivid, juicy tropical fruit, with guava, passion fruit pulp, sweet pineapple and pink grapefruit zest taking centre stage. Waves of fleshy stone fruit, including peach and apricot, blend with a subtle herbal and berry complexity from HBC 1183, balancing the intense tropical punch of Nectaron HyperBoost.

Medium-low bitterness with a smooth, resinous oiliness that lingers on the tongue. A clean, drying finish without any astringent green hop bite. The smooth mouthfeel is complemented by a subtle nuttiness from the chit and spelt malts.

This is a very limited and very special beer.

The Hops Must Be Crazy will be available exclusively on tap at Capital Craft Beer Academy, with a limited number of 440ml cans available directly from OC Brewery.

🍻 Launch: Saturday, 10 October at 13:00

2024 has been a year to remember! I’m so grateful for the amazing people I got to create artwork and gig posters for this year. Every project, big or small, pushed me to grow, refine my craft, and learn more about myself as an artist.

A huge thank you to everyone who trusted me with their visions and to all of you for your support along the way. The opportunities that came my way this year were nothing short of incredible, and I don’t take a single one for granted. Here’s to the journey so far—and the one ahead!
