TopOC Round 3! Entry on slide 2
.
Mako faces her open trunk with a seething fury. What had once housed all her belongings, all her trinkets and treasures, all her hopes of a new beginning, had been thoroughly tossed. Several of her more sparkly pieces, jewelry and the like, were gone from their carefully concealed compartments— of course, Mako had to be sure their original owners didn’t find them either. What exactly was stolen matters less to her than the fact that whoever it was dared to steal from HER. And the fact that the crown was gone? That stings even more, as she had promised her newfound conscience that she wouldn’t steal anything during the competition, that her days as a thief were behind her, and was certain she could win fair and square. It seems not everyone made the same guarantee.
.
Mako decides to put their keen senses and knack for blending in to good use. During their career as a performer and thief for the mob, they learned how easy it was to push the spotlight onto someone else by hanging off a talker’s arm and flashing practiced smiles, allowing Mako to take in details of the target and their mannerisms. They skirt around circles of contestants who are discussing the robberies, simultaneously keeping one ear out for conversational clues and one eye out for any suspiciously acting characters. If you catch them staring at you, don’t read too much into their calculating gaze. Take it as a compliment!
.
As he joins the detectives in their search, he dons his favorite coat and holds his sword with an iron grip, to ensure they don’t go missing as well. He won’t use the sword to hurt anyone, but it makes him feel less alone and more safe while someone is sneaking about the manor. It also doubles as his alibi: surely it was valuable enough to have been stolen, except for the fact that he was using it to spar at the time of the robbery. Other contestants can likely attest to the sounds of clanging and cursing coming from the courtyard where he practiced.

TopOC Round 2 - entry on slide 1!
.
No matter how many swanky places Mako has performed at, the sparkling lights always manage to take their breath away. They adore the glamour of Lord Ascan’s manor, but most of all, the dance floor! Mako spent so long on the stage in the past that they almost forgot how incredible it feels to let loose and cut a rug. They chose a stylish pair of slacks to give them plenty of wiggle room, as well as a set of dancing shoes. To fit the garden theme, they chose to embody a calla lily, with a comfy yellow pistil boa and a flared collar. Even though they decided to forgo their usual sparkles and fringe, they just HAD to include dangly lily-of-the-valley jewelry to give a little extra jingle to their jive.
.
Not only is “calla” from “beauty” in Greek, but Mako also finds it fitting that it’s symbolic of rebirth. He’s trying to make a new life for himself, away from the people who kept him blinded with spotlights. But a part of him knows he can never fully escape his old life. Her secret? This isn’t her first fresh start. “Mako” is obviously a stage name, given by the Fin, but that wasn’t her first time swimming with sharks. Her… “agent”… plucked her from the waves, reshaped her, and stole her protection so she had no choice but to fall back on the Fin. However, she’s found a new form of protection with the sword at her side. And she fully intends to use it to reclaim what was taken from her.
.
“My sword? Dont worry, I always keep it close by, but it makes a horrible dance partner. Believe me, I’ve tried. No sense of rhythm.”

TopOC Round 1 - extension pass used!
.
Mako rolled their eyes at the news. “Great, just my luck.” As eager as they had been to leave the mob life, they still had a taste for the finer things that was proving difficult to sate. The hotel would’ve at least made the transition easier. Annoyance rose at the thought of going another day without a soothing bath, but they freshened up the best they could anyways. They cracked open their trunk and changed into more fitting clothes for the campgrounds. Well, at least he wasn’t alone in his misfortune, and quite a few of the other contestants were already doing the dirty work of setting up shelter and gathering supplies. One woman even came over to spread some of her survival wisdom. He was relieved. His typical “survival” tactic was to sit around and look pretty. But if he’s going to begin fending for himself, he might as well start by contributing to the group.
.
Don’t let her sour look and sharp sword deter you— she’s offering her eclectic collection of furs to other contestants to help them keep warm! Mako never goes anywhere without a coat wrapped around herself, and over the years she was performing (and thieving) for the Fin, she managed to rack up quite the collection. Although, not all of them are exactly to her taste, and she’s going to have to travel light now that she’s on the run. So they’ve raided the depths of their trunk for things to get rid of- I mean, donate! They tuck the ornate sword from auditions at their side, and although it won’t come in handy much for camping, it’s just as successful at comforting them as their cozy coat.
