It has been wonderful working with the brilliant musicians at the Cleveland Institute of Music this week. On October 16, we will be performing works by Louise Farrenc, an Overture & a US premiere of an orchestral work by Elfrda Andrée, and Mendelssohn’s beloved “Reformation” Symphony.

We’ll give an outing to the wonderful Louise Farrenc’s “Overture No.2 in E flat. This piece is an energetic Romantic orchestral work that showcases her mastery of orchestral form, dramatic tension, and rich orchestration.

The two Elfrda Andrée works on the program are rarely heard! Overture in G minor, an early mature orchestral work that foreshadows many characteristics of her later works. Followed by the US Premiere of Andrée’s Varför och Därför, which somewhat translates as Why and Because. The title gives listeners a glimpse into an emotional narrative arc without relying on a rigid text and instead uses the full timbre of the orchestra.

It has been wonderful working with the brilliant musicians at the Cleveland Institute of Music this week. I am extremely honored to join the group as the Kulas Foundation Visiting Artist and very much looking forward to our concert on October 16th! We will be performing works by Louise Farrenc, an Overture & a US premiere of an orchestral work by Elfrda Andrée, and Mendelssohn’s beloved “Reformation” Symphony.

I guess it’s still rare to find a program that features more than one piece by a woman, if any at all - now we have three incredible compositions by women composers - from the 19th Century and about 40% of the minutes. Thanks to Cleveland Institute of Music for helping open new doors for equality. Right when we are seeing diversity decreasing in professional orchestras.
