Phew this one hits…

I started dancing at 6, then I quit because I wanted to do gymnastics. A year in, my mom was driving me to practice and from the backseat I said “Mom, I think I want to dance again.” Bless my sweet parents because they let me quit gymnastics right then and there😭. I began dancing again shortly after. I believe that was God pulling me back to how He would use me for the rest of my life.

Fast forward to Johnson C. Smith, my “campus tour” was a little different. I met a woman who invited me to attend their annual dance concert…that same woman eventually became my amazing dance coach, Professor O’Toole (I call her PrO’Toole hehe).

My dance journey at Smith has been such a beautiful chaotic journey. I get emotional thinking about how I was supported and given opportunity after opportunity to do something I genuinely love doing…dancing. Throughout my 4 years, God managed to heal every injury and put me back on stage. Every. time. He never delayed.

Thank you students and faculty at Smith for always cheering me on and reminding me of why I love dance. To this day, there are still cheers I hear from the audiences of previous performances. Thank you to all the amazing people I met within the dance department that shaped my time here. I love you all so much.

to moving forward

Truly at a loss for words on how God used me and kept me in my undergraduate years. I experienced so many trials and mental/physical challenges…little did I know that I would look back on those seasons of my life, praising the Lord that I’m still here…stronger, resilient, wiser, and so much more.

I also received many achievements. Summa Cum Laude, Presidential Scholar, Awarded Best Performer, among other things that I am so grateful for. None of that compares to my biggest reward…FULLY accepting Christ in my life and being transformed. I choose God every day because He chose me before I knew Him. His character gave me foundation. How to love, be selfless, help a neighbor. I could go on, but all his credentials are in the Bible:)

Oh how I’ll praise the Lord for all my days.

Thank you to my family, my friends, my partner, and my professors. Thank you for always showing up and believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself.
