I'm a sucker for the stories of old, whether it be Norse, Celtic, Mayan, Greek mythology anything. Often in these tails you hear of punishment, people acting out against the establishment and being punished. But what if these weren't the original stories at all. But a spin to detract from these acts of defiance.
So when I came across this myth the idea popped into my head straight away, I knew what I wanted to create and show. This piece is far from perfect and was a struggle at times, but sometimes maybe a good representation is an imperfect piece to represent an imperfect story.

'Peace Under the Waves'
I'm obsessed with anything underwater. Suffering from Autism, being underwater is my safe space. Be it head under the shower or actually diving. Underwater sounds are muffled, lights are less glaring, everything seems flowing rather than rushed. It's peace! Which is probably why I've been focusing a lot of my work on underwater themes since starting pyrography nearly 2 months ago after my surgery.

First attempt was a messed up Manta Ray on the tiniest bit of Pine. Nothing felt natural with Pyrography. In this moment I had no idea I'd be able to do a piece of this scale! But I persevered, taught myself. Thinking I got better techniques now 🤣

I'm so proud of it, learnt a lot as I went through it. Definitely still got plenty to learn, but I'm so happy with this piece.

So it's done!!!!! Probably stayed up a little too late last night to finish it. So my Mum wanted a piece for her Birthday which is today!! (Yep definitely last minute). But it took me ages to get an image in my head for it and put it off and off. But here we are, a nod to the 6 dogs they have rescued and loved over the years. Each one has rose in her garden for them, which is where that came from and in the shading I have written their names. There is a lot more to it, but I'm getting tired drafting this at 2am to post when I wake up lol.

So this is gonna be a gift and the deadline is Friday 🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪. Nothing like last minute craming.
Still got so much more I wanna do with this design. Maybe I'll make it an Xmas gift.
This is where I need one of those body doubles just to show up at work for me

So I picked up my pyro set for the first time in weeks and it was a complete failure. I tried to rectify the problem by going darker and darker to cover up the issues with burning Ash. But I wasn't good enough to work with it.
This felt like a massive f*** you after such a big gap. Now to brush myself off and work up the energy to try start again

This maybe my favourite place in this world. We didn't get the fancy holidays growing up but I was privileged/lucky enough to have Grandparents who lived in the New Forest.
My summers were spent here with my brothers exploring, building forts, hearing made up tales about the land from my grandad, him teaching us all about the wildlife. It's where my love for nature began. So now every time I visit I make sure to take a bit for myself just to walk around again.
