Most of them didn’t tell me their marriages were terrible.

Quite the opposite.

“My wife is a good person.”

She’s a great mother.
We get along.
She supports my career.
I have freedom.
Our family works.
We’ve built a beautiful life.

In many ways, 80% of the marriage works.

So why leave?

Because the other woman is filling the 20% that isn’t.

She sees him.
She’s curious about him.
She wants him.
She desires him.
She makes him feel interesting, masculine, sexual and alive again.

And here’s the part people don’t talk about:

For a while, the affair can actually make it easier to stay married.

His wife and family hold the life he’s built.

The other woman touches the part of him that has felt invisible inside it.

Between the two relationships, almost every bucket gets filled.

But it isn’t sustainable.

Because eventually, that 20% stops feeling like 20%.

When you’ve been starving for something long enough, the person finally feeding it can begin to eclipse everything else.

Suddenly, the marriage that was 80% good feels emptier.

Not necessarily because the marriage changed.

Because he remembered what it feels like to feel alive.

And that’s where the comparison gets dangerous.

Home carries kids, mortgages, schedules, history and responsibility.

The affair carries desire, attention, sex, curiosity and escape.

But they’re not being tested under the same conditions.

One relationship is carrying real life.

The other is carrying the parts of him that real life stopped touching.

Eventually, he has to answer two questions:

If the other woman disappeared tomorrow, would my marriage actually be enough?

And:

If my marriage disappeared tomorrow, would the affair still feel like everything I think it is?

Because an affair can temporarily make an unhappy marriage easier to stay in…

while quietly making that same marriage harder and harder to tolerate.

The affair may be showing you what’s missing.

But it’s information. Not the answer. ❤️ by @cindy.stibbard

One of the hardest truths about divorce is that you can make the right decision and still hate what it costs you.

You can miss your marriage without wanting the marriage you actually had.

You can feel lonely, scared, and full of doubt without any of it meaning you made a mistake.

But here’s what we often forget: staying has a cost, too.

The question isn’t which decision hurts less.

It’s which decision allows you to live a life you no longer have to convince yourself is enough.

Because missing what was familiar doesn’t necessarily mean it was right for you.❤️ by @cindy.stibbard

Be prepared to say goodbye for real if the go to threat is to break up or divorce in the heat of an agreement or fight…

Be careful what you wish for. Sometimes you get that wish. ❤️

You can run a company, lead a team and make big-dollar calls without blinking.

But the question of whether to stay in your marriage has been sitting with you for months. Maybe years.

Nothing is dramatically wrong.

You’ve just stopped bringing things up.

You live more like roommates than partners. And you keep telling yourself you’ll deal with it “after.”

Most men wait, check out quietly or hit a breaking point. Each of those lets the decision get made for them.

I created a private guide for the man who wants to decide on purpose. Inside is a 20-point relationship inventory that gives you a real score, the three anchors that show whether there’s still something to rebuild, and the exact words to open the conversation you’ve been avoiding.

Nobody sees your answers but you.❤️

You want to save your relationship? Try putting down your defence long enough to hear why your partner is hurting and why you might be part of the problem.

Not to correct them.
Not to explain yourself.
Not to defend.
Not to remind them of everything YOU’VE been through and what what they have done to you.

Just. Please. For god sake. Listen.

Because here’s what so many people don’t understand and I see it daily…

Your partner doesn’t need you to agree with every feeling they have. They need to know their feelings actually matter to you even if you don’t see it the same way.

And when someone finally gets the courage to tell you they’re unhappy, the worst thing you can do is turn their pain into a courtroom where you’re the defence attorney.

You can spend the entire conversation proving you’re not the bad guy and completely miss the fact that the person you love is telling you they’re losing hope.

Accountability isn’t admitting you’re responsible for everything that’s wrong.

It’s being willing to see where you’ve contributed to the distance between you.

And sometimes, that one shift can open a door that years of arguing couldn’t.

Because you can’t repair what you refuse to acknowledge.

And trust me, accountability is a hell of a lot sexier than being right. ❤️ by @cindy.stibbard

Children rarely remember what their parents told them. They remember what their parents did.

How conflict ended, or didn’t.

Whether affection was shown or assumed.

Who carried the stress, and who disappeared into the office to escape it.

Those moments became the blueprint for every relationship that followed, including the one you’re in now.

Here’s the hopeful part: a pattern you can name is a pattern you can change.

Awareness comes first. Making different choices follow.

Which one did you grow up with?❤️ by @cindy.stibbard

Most of us learned love in childhood by watching our two caretaking adults interact with each other in our day to day life.

Nobody explained any of it.

We simply absorbed how anger got handled, who apologized first, if there was kindness and affection, and whether anyone noticed (or cared) when someone was hurting.

Decades later, those early impressions still run the show.

They decide if you speak up or shut down, if you reach for her or retreat to the garage. If you share your feelings or not based on the reaction you’ll face.

Your parents aren’t villains here.
They worked with the tools they had.

Now the choice of what gets passed down is yours.
