today marks one year since this worship moment—one that would change me forever.the months leading up to it, and even after, were some of the hardest times I’ve ever faced. but in retrospect, i see how the LORD was using every part of it to draw me closer to Him.this was the first time i truly yielded in worship— not performing, not paying attention to the clock or the setlist, not looking to people but to Him. i just surrendered. and what had been cultivated in the secret place finally poured out on stage.man… THIS is the beauty about God’s presence. it’s refreshing to our souls when we’re thirsty, but also a consuming fire burning up everything that’s not like him (fear, worry, depression). and this is why we long to remain in moments like these. what a 20 minute setlist may look like to someone else, for me in this very moment, was a fraction of heaven. even as i was editing this, tears began to flow from my eyes because we truly can’t fathom eternity. the word ā€œhonorā€ is an understatement for the privilege we get to experience here and now. and i thank Jesus for tearing the veil so that’d be possible for us to draw near and dwell in His presence.shout to my big brother @rodlin.pierre (on keys) for yielding and obeying in this moment as well. forever grateful for you!!ā€œyou make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.ā€ — psalm 16:11i can only imagine. šŸ¤ by @cindydonnaa

I have a confession to make…I hate being seen.I hate being perceived.I hate the idea of being ā€œtoo much.ā€As much as I preach (well, honestly, rarely) the importance of taking up space, I found myself retracting out of fear (mixed with a little bit of life’s circumstances)… yet again…*deep negro spiritual sigh*truly, human nature is to be a walking contradiction (ā€œall roads lead back to michael,ā€ as quoted by my hg @elcarlasthasie love ya girly hehe)When my dear friend, @tionablanc , asked me to be a part of this project, I was honored, but then I immediately was put into a state of reflection. Growing up as the oddball, the misfit, the girl who stuck out like a sore thumb, with a thousand interests pulling me in several directions, it was no surprise that I felt lost, confused, and different. All I wanted more than anything was to be accepted. Yet every which way I turned, I was only met with rejection. But the beautiful thing about rejection is that it gives you permission to do your own thing, to exist with all your complexities and flaws freely—to take up space, with purpose.so that’s still the goal.and that’s what this represents.and to younger cindy,it wasn’t a waste to ā€œtry.ā€existing isn’t enough. to exist truthfully is what matters in the end.God got you. by @cindydonnaa

Dr. Richard Beckford…I remember the first time I’ve encountered the angelic being that you were.Summer Band Camp—2016–fresh out of middle school. I was a young Haitian-American sheltered girl who was confused about their identity, a people pleaser, and who wanted nothing more than to leave this earth. You found me in the cafeteria that morning and pleaded with my mother to let me join your band. You placed a flute in my hand and the rest was history. The band room quickly became my second home, my bandmates became my second family, and you quickly became my father. The day you left Ely I left you a note that was written front to back with a school picture of me attached just in case you forgot how I looked like lol. You never did. After that moment you made sure to remind me from time to time that you read my note. every day. Never missing a beat.Thank you for fathering me like I was your own, for disciplining me, for your discipleship, for stretching me, for believing in me. You taught me how to respect myself, how to grow in confidence, and how to show grace without measure. You were the first to love me correctly— altering my view of men for the rest of my life. You were more than just a drill writer, composer, and music connoisseur. You were Christ’s heart personified. And to this day, I have never met a person who carried His glory just as well as you did. Your prophetic words, your wisdom, your compassion— they all echo through my heart and mind as I prepare to let you go.I woke up this morning with a heavy heart. But so empowered to love like you did, to show grace like you did. This life is truly a vapor but you took advantage of every opportunity to steward the gift God entrusted you with. Beyond all of your accomplishments, may your legacy of pride, respect, integrity, dedication, excellence— but most importantly love live on in all the lives you touched— by @cindydonnaa

this year, i stopped grieving the girl i didn’t become as i celebrate the woman i’m becoming.birthdays have always felt bittersweet for me. i would put so much pressure and anticipation on this one day, almost like it was the only time i was allowed to feel loved. and when the day left, i would fall into the birthday blues because it felt like time was moving faster than i was.i used to treat my age like a checklist. like there were certain things i had to accomplish before i hit a new number. and when i didn’t, i felt behind. i didn’t give myself grace to just enjoy the age i was at. i’m never going to be 23 again. i’m never going to be 24 again. these years don’t repeat.23 honestly felt like a junior year of life. that weird, heavy, stretching year where everything feels like a valley and you’re just trying to keep up. last year i said it was my psalm 23 year, and it was. it was the valleys. it was the growing pains. it was the quarter-life crisis and the waiting and the pressure that turned into prayer.but the Lord told me that 24 is my glory year. the year where everything He’s been forming in private finally reflects His hand in public. the year where the pressing turns into oil. the year where the reaping begins. where the gold can finally sparkle after being refined.so on day three out 365 of being 24, i’m choosing to be present. i’m choosing joy. i’m choosing to live every day like it’s my birthday. i’m choosing to enjoy the journey instead of rushing through it because God never rushes me. even in the moments when my faith was tested, He kept me.i’m leaning into who He’s calling me to be. unboxed. unhurried. open. I’m enjoying this journey called life and all that it has to offer— but this time, with Him.if you’ve ever felt behind or pressured by your age, i hope my story reminds you that God writes in seasons, not deadlines. your glory year is coming too.here’s to 24.here’s to glory. by @cindydonnaa
