“Ah, you’re Cindy, the lady who’s been here 30 years.” 😄

Someone teased me after my recent talk to a group of Malaysian business attending the Farnborough Airshow.

It made me laugh because...I think I did mention it a few times. 🫣😂

Preparing for the talk, I realised this June marked 30 years since I arrived in the UK to complete my chartered accountancy exams.

Thirty years.. 🙉

Looking through the guest list (representatives from aviation and aerospace businesses, some already established in the UK and others exploring opportunities here.), I asked myself one simple question:

“If I were in their shoes, what would I want to know?”

I could have spoken about tax, compliance or company structures.

Instead, I shared what 30 years of living, working and building a life in the UK has taught me.

🌸 An accountant… looking at the numbers.

🌸 A former BBC employee… understanding how large organisations make decisions.

🌸 A business owner… who understands the realities of building and growing a business.

🌸 A mum… because building a business often feels a little like raising another child.

Each experience has given me a different perspective.

I’ve learnt that experience doesn’t just teach us new things.

It changes the way we see life and business.

Some relationships take time.

It took two years from being introduced to a prospective client to them becoming a client.

I remember joking with the CEO when they signed on that if our two businesses had been dating, we’d have been married! 😂

After working together for 18 months, last week they got in touch to ask if we could take on more of their back-office support and add us to their bank mandate.

I was genuinely touched.

Not because of the extra work, but because of what it represented.

Trust.

As accountants, we spend our days talking about numbers, tax and cash flow.

But what we’re really building is trust.

The confidence that someone is looking after your business as carefully as they would their own.

If there’s one thing I hope every client says about Core Connect Accountants, it’s simply:

“I trust you.”

To every client who has placed that trust in us, thank you. It is a privilege, and something I never take for granted. 💕

📸 Earlier this week, while visiting a client in Cambridge, I stumbled across this beautiful 700 year old pub.

I’d never heard of a monks’ staircase before.

There’s something so special about meeting fellow Malaysians, no matter where we are in the world.

It was a privilege to meet Malaysia’s new High Commissioner to the UK, H.E. Dato’ Indera Dr. Azfar Mohamad Mustafar, and Dato’ Abu Bakar Yusof.

I was honoured to speak to a group of Malaysian companies visiting the UK for the Farnborough International Airshow, and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute, even in a small way, as Malaysian businesses continue to expand their presence in the UK.

Wishing all the participating companies a successful Farnborough International Airshow and many exciting opportunities ahead!

Someone asked me that this week.

I laughed and said "No".

He looked at me again and asked, "Are you sure?"

Well... that's definitely a first! 😁

They do say everyone has a doppelgänger somewhere in the world... so perhaps mine is in Malaysia! 🤷🏻‍♀️

On another note, 2026 is Visit Malaysia Year.

Although I've lived in the UK for almost 30 years, Malaysia will always hold a special place in my heart. It's a country of beautiful cultures, incredible food, and the warmest hospitality. 🇲🇾

If you've never visited, perhaps 2026 is the perfect year. 😉

To my Malaysian friends... if there really is someone in Malaysia who looks like me (or perhaps I look like them!), I'd love to know. 😁

My day started at 5:19am with a message that made me smile... 😊

My eldest minion (a Year 2 NHS doctor) texted me:

“K said your videos are great and she just did her tax rebate because she listened to your videos.”

My reply?

“That’s brilliant! Tell her thanks for the feedback. I love it…. Make sure you do yours too!”
(Sorry sayang... once a mum, always a mum 🤷🏻‍♀️)

One of the things I love most about creating content for healthcare professionals is that my own daughters are part of that community too.

So when I hear that another junior doctor has actually taken action because of one of my videos, it genuinely makes my day.

That message reminded me of this video.

If you’re an NHS doctor, I hope it helps you too.

And finally...

I don’t really watch football. I’ve watched exactly two World Cup matches... and I didn’t even make it to the end of the second one! 🤦🏻‍♀️

But... come on England! I’m rooting for you! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

(And to Argentina 🇦🇷... good luck too. You still have my vote when it comes to steak).

A lovely afternoon in London at the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) roundtable luncheon.

As the businesses and professionals I work with grow, their financial world often becomes more complex too - international income, investments, expansion plans and opportunities beyond the UK.
