Utterly modern, Alien (or, as it’s known in French, Alien, le huitième passager) is probably one of the greatest horror films in history. The space sequences - almost a precursor to Blade Runner (by the same director, two years later) - are exceptionally beautiful. The sci-fi atmosphere, so masterfully crafted by Scott, is in full force, creating an almost suffocating, claustrophobic tension.

Nearly 50 years later, the film’s legacy is still felt, as it laid the groundwork for the genre.

In 1979, one of the greatest films ever created was released. Chaotic, mad, halluci-natory... there’s no shortage of expressions to describe this UFO of cinema. For although the story tells of a man’s journey to the depths of Cambodia, it is above all an illustration of man’s journey to the depths of his own hell. The hell he has created from scratch, year after year, century after century, each time pushing back the limits of his own barbarism. Willard’s story is one of conscience wandering through reality. It notes, with horror, that in a war, there are no bad guys or good guys, just the pitiful traces of our own self-destruction.

A unique horror film. Michael Myers, in name only, is an absolute legend. A little kid who kills his older sister, then returns years later to exact his revenge on Halloween night. The pitch is chilling. Carpenter's style of hiding the murderer as much as possible, even to the point of having his point of view at the beginning of the film, is obviously a stroke of genius that builds up the whole fantasy of his killer. It's a pity, however, that the screenplay is reduced to a single line.

Tragic sweetness. It is with these two words that we can sum up this film. Shots of magnificent innocence follow one another, showing the daily life of poor peasants, the day working to survive, the evening gathering together to live. The natural-color film aesthetic that we can find gives this impression of authenticity to these human scenes, and that's what makes the film great. The scenario. there is none, except for this tragic end, brought... gently.

We follow with humour and caricature this couple who complement each other so well, their personalities so expressive. The beauty of this film lies in its dynamic narrative, which shows us every aspect of their relationship (and of relationships in general), from beginning to end. How one breaks away, then the other, then the first comes back, then the second, then how the end is really the end. In the end, this film shows us that love is just a period, that people impose themselves on our lives as a matter of course, and then leave again, independently of our will.

Padre Padrone is about a violent father who works for his family and devotes his life to supporting them... so much so that he becomes their executioner and dictator. If the film starts out infamously slow, it's to highlight the hell and the discrepancy that Gavino's son experiences. The second part, the liberation, gives the film a feeling of rebirth, so much so that the character seems to discover life, with a fine speech at the end.

Star Wars... its name, this saga, these characters... so legendary, and the criticism becomes complicated... Because how to judge the quality of a film that has passed the test of time? From generation to generation its credits resound, and make you feel the thrill of the first day, of the first broadcast in 1977 as if the 46 years did not exist. The truth is that it does: it definitely upsets the codes of science fiction, completely changes the way cinema is perceived. But it is not perfect: I reproach it with a sometimes light acting, a scenario with too recurrent facilities. Finally, what are these small flaws compared to the immensity of what has just been accomplished? It will not have 5 stars, because I judge the cinematographic aspect. But in our hearts, in mine and in the hearts of millions of fans, it has them, hands down.

As part of the release of the movie Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom, a little review of the famous The 12 Labors of Asterix! He is 47 years old, and it shows. We feel that the animation is getting old, and it's a shame! Because the two Gallic heroes live a nice adventure, maybe a little too childish... but the settings, the remake of the 12 labors of Hercules, the soundtrack form a film that passes naturally. It does the job, without revolutionizing anything.
