Cineworks is proud to support VIFF 2026 as a Community Partner for 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀, a showcase celebrating the next wave of Canadian and Indigenous storytellers.

Running as part of the 45th Vancouver International Film Festival, Northern Lights brings together a diverse collection of bold and distinctive features, including five world premieres alongside Vancouver premieres of acclaimed films from the international festival circuit. Deeply personal stories, unconventional filmmaking approaches, Indigenous perspectives, immigrant experiences, family histories, dark comedy, thrillers, documentary and drama all find a home in this year’s program.

The lineup includes films by Joella Cabalu, Cody Lightning, Nyla Innuksuk, Justin Ducharme, Ashley Duong, Arnold Lim, Ian Bawa, Gloria Mercer, Carol Nguyen, Alexandra Lazarowich and many more.

Cineworks recently highlighted Joella Cabalu’s First Comes Love: Nakabingwit, which is also part of this year’s Northern Lights program.

Northern Lights screenings continue throughout VIFF until October 11 at venues across Vancouver.

Some screenings are already on standby or have limited availability, so we encourage audiences to check VIFF directly for current ticket availability.

𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦: 𝘕𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘸𝘪𝘵 𝗮𝘁 𝗩𝗜𝗙𝗙 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Cineworks is thrilled to celebrate filmmaker Joella Cabalu and the World Premiere of her first feature documentary as writer-director, 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦: 𝘕𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘸𝘪𝘵, at the 2026 Vancouver International Film Festival.

Produced by the National Film Board of Canada and playfully framed as a rom-com documentary, the film follows women in the Filipino diaspora as they navigate conversations about race, privilege, culture, and love with their white romantic partners.

Blending intimate interviews with reenactments inspired by Cabalu’s own relationship, the film brings humour, warmth, and emotional candour to the complexities of interracial relationships.

Come celebrate Joella’s feature debut and catch this warm, funny, and thoughtful new Canadian documentary on the big screen.

Cineworks is proud to collaborate with OFF-VIFF for a full day of underground, independent, and alternative cinema on Wednesday, October 7.

Now in its third year, the homegrown festival expands across Vancouver with a program celebrating DIY filmmaking and unconventional visions of what BC and Canadian cinema can be.

OFF-VIFF takes over Cineworks with two shorts programs featuring films from Vancouver, Canada, and beyond, alongside Tristan Wheeler’s DIY comedy 𝘛𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘈𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 and Vancouver filmmaker Becca Kozak’s punk-rock feminist body-horror feature 𝘚𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘳 𝘙𝘰𝘵.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟵𝘁𝗵, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

In observance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Cineworks Independent Film Society will be closed on Wednesday, September 30th, 2026.

On March 9th, 2023, the Province of British Columbia passed legislation to make September 30 a statutory holiday. The Act is formally known as The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Act. Enshrining National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in B.C. law provides an opportunity for people to reflect on the history and legacy of the residential school system each year.

This day is intended to commemorate the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. It is designated as an opportunity to enable people to take time to reflect and deepen their understanding of the intergenerational trauma of residential schools and to consider how they can advance reconciliation in their communities.

We will resume regular business hours on Thursday, October 1st, 2026.

We LOVE the shorts and features playing at @cineworksvan and the best way I can think to express that love is to make graphics. Tall wide and square. I haven’t left the house today. Does it show? It’s such a good lineup. Let me check ticket sales… oh my! Not bad! This slate will sell out so maybe it’s ok that I’m not promoting it efficiently in this post. The poster says it all anyways right? I have to leave the house. I simply must. Cineworks slate rocks!

Cineworks is proud to present 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘀, 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘆 𝗢𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀 𝗬𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮𝘀 (𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀, 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗬𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮𝘀), a three-day celebration of Argentine cinema bringing together three distinctive films and the filmmakers behind them. Curated by Argentine writer Vanesa O’Toole, the series features different windows into questions of memory, identity, history, connection, and social change.

After each screening, the director will join us live via Zoom for a post-film conversation and audience Q&A, offering a chance to hear directly about the ideas, experiences, and creative processes behind the work.

Admission is free for all three screenings.

The 6th Annual Vancouver Black Independent Film Festival returns to The Cultch – Vancity Culture Lab this November!

Cineworks is pleased to partner once again with our friends at the Vancouver Latin American Film Festival (VLAFF) for its 24th edition!

From September 14th through 18th, Cineworks will host two daily screenings at 2 and 4 pm.

This year, VLAFF brings together bold, diverse, and innovative cinema from across Latin America and its diasporas—films shaped by curiosity, resistance, joy, and the impulse to capture and share stories. Across perspectives, places, and encounters, VLAFF 24 celebrates the many ways cinema can reflect who we are, where we come from, and how we see the world.
