Body diversity in fashion.

Increasing trends pushing to lose weight and be skinny, reinforce the idea that a nor mal body should be skinny. Women lose control over their bodies and are pushed to fit specific standards in order to «fit» in. Being different seems to be a reason to be ignored and dismissed. It should not. There is a diversity of bodies and each one of them deserves to be represented. This project aims to heal us and normalise the re presentation of people in fashion.
This collection addresses the lack of representation of plus size and disabled bodies in the fashion industry. It also questions the construction of garments in order to be adapted to a person’s disability (here for a wheelchair user).
Furthermore, it also has a link to sustainability, as plus size bodies are a great target audience for fast fashion, and including greater sizes in slower fashion could counter this trend. Concern of elastic and finding alternatives as very useful to be body fitting.

This collection, underlines the irony in the concept of fruit body shapes that dic tates what should be worn, by doing the complete opposite and becoming that fruit. Through playfulness and volume we should let people experiment and wear whatever they want to wear .

This collection aims to take you through Gwenbns recollections: the ones of living in a secluded seaside community. Through the collection you get to know the different blurred personalities intertwined with Gwenn's life and memories, unsure whether all has already happend or is soon to be.

Look 2: Modular denim jacket with a half pleated printed skirt.
The jacket is a link to the idea of metamorphosis being a consequence of the embracing circular time. Since there is no end nor beginning, we are in continuous metamorphosis as time goes by.
The prints on the skirt are illustrations I made inspired by "Dance" by Henri Matisse. The two prints are placed on different sides of the pleats creating an illusion of movement.

A Bubble bath

“A bath that you fill with bubbles made by a special liquid soap with a pleasant smell”

The feeling of suspension of time when taking a bath, in this time nothing else matters except: yourself.
It is a moment to relax, meditate, rethink, analyse and wonder. Cleanse yourself from any negative things.
Such I see the ritual of (bubble) baths.
Others might see it differently, to them I will tell that a contentant, water and soap is all there is to it. These three elements are its essence, the rest is up to you.

But one thing presently doesn’t change:

I’m not a big fan of baths.

Project: The World
"In a world where office work is done by a great number of people, there is a need for individuality. The general office attire is bland and lacks uniqueness and self expression. In addition to its lack of fun, it also lacks comfort. Why should we all look the same when we are all different and unique?
Why not become your own character instead of being another character?
I want people to feel comfortable, free and exude confidence in my design. I want it to be colourful and feel like myself, rather cartoonish.
I want my design to bring fun, in a rather bland and monotonous environment to make work more enjoyable. How much more fun would going to work be if we could express ourselves?"

I'm finally posting the photos taken of my design for my last LAB. I made this clown like design to work around the value I chose: "childishness".

Childishness is often associated with ignorance and foolishness. We tend to push this idea away in order to put forward an attitude we believe is just and mature.
However, I believe that both attitudes could coexist and even complement each other. Childishness could help us go past the boundaries of monotony, to allow us to be ourselves and express our creativity.
Why not use our imagination and curiosity to face the issues of our lives?
Don't be afraid, be childish!
