you see a piece and assume

you say you love me
you think you know me
but how do i end up lonely?

truthfully
it’s awfully funny
you trample into my life
i press pause on my time
for what exactly?
a greedy mentality?
your bs audacity?
baby boy
that’s insanity

i’ve said my piece
take these words how you please

hey y’all happy tuesday.

an old friend of mine recently sent over these photos, and the gesture made me pretty emotional:

after my 3rd take at the LSAT, i became pretty ill. it was my standard regimen. identical routine. working. stressing. living. surviving. all that landed & kept me in a hospital room for the majority of the year. all that forced me to withdraw from law school and leave new york. all that fated me to fail.

I am a true believer that God will save you in the most drastic ways. that He will definitely break you to bless you. the truth is, I’ve dreamed of enrolling in law school since 8th grade. 13 year old cipriana yearned for something very different than 24 year old cipriana.

so, i’ve been back home in San Diego for almost a year now. at times, it’s been defeating, but I know I’m right where I need to be. since i’ve had time, i’ve decided to pursue a more personal career trajectory aligned in Ethics & Philosophy. I have also been offered an opportunity to compete in the Woman of Achievement Pageant as Ms. California African American 2025. advocating for multigenerational mental health awareness and education throughout black communities. watching God move is exciting!! I’m just grateful to have the opportunity to redeem some inner peace.

so, I know it’s a long read. but these days, transparency seems to be the best tool for me. 🤞🏽

Q: “what advice would you give you to young girls today”

A: regulate yourself before you step out into the world. life isn’t always kind, but that’s okay.. control what only you can, and let God take care of the rest.

genuinely a transformative weekend. I met some beautiful people, nurtured relationships, & overall was authentic to myself the entire time.

no, i didn’t win the main crown, however, a title does not define the love I received, the memories I created, or the purpose I walked in. this was a win for my spirit.

listen cip,

dad always taught me that lessons learned in basketball could be ingrained in almost every avenue of life. “STICK TO THE FUNDAMENTALS” he chanted. bounce passes, bank shots, squared feet, etc. regardless of how advanced or complex my game progressed, the fundamentals guaranteed success.

I understand now what he meant. i know the road to this degree has been exhausting. complex. confusing even. 4.5 years of uncertainty: of my passions, my identity, and my purpose. But thankfully, I perfected my fundamentals. Grounded in faith, community, love, and hope; my fundamentals have reminded me that even in my loneliness, I’ve never had to do any of this alone.

i haven’t been the kindest to you. working three jobs at a times, taking max credits each semester, beginning eight paged essays hours before the deadline. 4.5 years of constant go mode. socially, intellectually, & emotionally. I applaud you, for not succumbing to this self induced pressure; for sticking to your fundamentals and proving adversity wrong.

let’s step into a season of grace okay?

how do you cope with change?
honestly,
i’m not too sure that i know.
i think over time
we learn that change is
inevitably bound to happen
and accepting the uncontrollable
has to be enough

but is it?

- having a little writer’s block. here’s a little journey through my thoughts from six months ago-

forgive and forget
a mantra that used to keep me at ease
the truth is
that gave me no real peace

do you think before you speak?
is your low self esteem
so great
that hostility is a necessity?
right, because harming those you “love”
is so intriguing?

your behavior is quite explanatory
truthfully
you take yourself way too seriously

you fill the air with lifeless words
but lifeless
that’s a deceptive term
deceptive…
let’s say inaccurate
your words are categorized as
meaningless
bringing joy in one season
but crumbling in the next
these expectations were farcical
and therefore
your words meant less

i mean..less
lends to nothing
and you can figure out the rest

so you’re wondering
why choose forgiveness?
i’ve recognized that my soul deserves
internal peace
and one day
time’s eternal hands will leave you
as merely
a distant memory

i think we’ve agreed
forgive, but never forget
this mantra truly keeps me at ease
understanding i deserve nothing less
and my soul should remain
forever at peace
