Pretty & Gritty in The Iron City. 🖤💛 Activating spaces through multidisciplinary art: Film, Circus, Theatre, Music, and Creative Media.

POSTS STORIES REELS

What do you do with creative energy that will not go away? Even when you doubt it. Even when others reject you. It just gets stronger.

Nearly a year ago, @circus_lingeyy and I started dreaming up this short film about how the vitality of art can’t be ignored. In spite of cultural pressures, unforeseen complications, or critics inner and outspoken, the creative force that makes it all possible - circus, music, theatre, film, writing, painting, media - doesn’t vanish. It builds upon itself until it either expresses into being or metastasizes into suffering.

We made this in response to cultural pressures and hit many unforeseen complications along the way. But we never stopped saying “Damn the torpedos.” And we never waited for the cavalry to come.

So here we are. Finally across the finish line, having hit the guardrails most of the way. And we’re already thinking of the next one.

In the meantime we invite you to follow along here, where we will announce the dropping of our short film, Boléro Challenge, this May. In it, you’ll enjoy scenic features of 4 organizations that contribute to Pittsburgh’s arts economy:

🎭 @arcadecomedy
👟 @bamchoreography
🪩 @thisisred
🎪 @ironcitycircusarts

Stay tuned for more in-depth explorations of these businesses. Until then, stay classy, Pittsburgh Circus Fans!

Every jungle has a rhythm. And that rhythm is simple. And complicated. And everything it is supposed to be…This is my first experiment in aerial percussion first performed at our student showcase at @ironcitycircusarts . Many thanks to Natalie Vazquez for filming this. The tune is Trio Per Uno: Part I by Nebojša Jovan Živković performed by Pulse Percussion Ensemble.

“I’m The Witch of The Warp. Pleasure to meet you…”
@mister_punch92 said he wanted me to play this character who was a cross between The Wicked Witch of The West and Darth Vader. Need I say more?

💫 Congratulations, @proud_peacock_productions on crushing the run of Offworld: A Space Adventure!
📸 And thank you to @jeffcooperphoto for these photos of us in action!

Stay classy, Local Theater Fans!

Sexy or not, you gotta have the long sleeve shirt for some moves in sling (a.k.a. Squishy Trapeze). Otherwise, the only “hot” you’ll feel is the burn on your shoulder. 😣 Thanks to @andrea6446 for loaning me her very comfy shirt. ❤️ Stay classy, Aerial Sling Fans!

Is that a blindfolded peacock with a lightsaber? Yes. Yes it is. Happy Halloween, Pittsburgh Theatre Fans!

Last chance to catch Offworld: A Space Adventure is tomorrow. Ticket link in bio!

It’s amazing how often I find similarities between circus and my job. Comment if you’ve experienced this. Either the tech support thing or the circus arts thing. Or both!

What can I say? I work and I cirque. Stay classy, Aerial Sling Fans!

And thanks to @shelbyshingle for being the source of truth on this “call.” 😂

I begged @shelbyshingle to teach us Dracula Drop on sling…and then I was sick the day she taught it 😔 But she was SO generous to bring it back to class this week, and I finally got to be like Dracula 🧛‍♀️❤️ Stay classy, Aerial Sling Fans!

RUST RAIDERS ATTACK! 💫 🏴‍☠️This is the story of how a Cirque Jag turned a color guard rifle into a prop for a space pirate!

An old stocking + fabric paint + some iridescent moon gems = the perfect cover to transform this Goodwill find into the weapon of a wily Rust Raider.

This Rust Raider’s name is Tick, and you can catch a whole mess of characters like this in Offworld: A Space Adventure. This original play presented by @proud_peacock_productions is D&D meets Wizard of Oz in Space. And it’s exactly what your Halloween plans need, Pittsburgh!

P.S., Someday, I may actually learn to spin a color guard rifle. 😂

⭐️ NEW ARTICLE ⭐️ “Creative Spaces, especially large ones like @thisisred , are meant to matter in more than one way. Thus, they are inherently practical…

Each activity draws a different combination of people into the same physical asset. When something can support multiple kinds of value without needing to become something different every time, economic health is possible.

It’s a lot like circus art. It either goes with nothing, or it goes with everything, depending on how you look at it…”
