Cissy Jones' article is now live!

From growing up in Boise to getting a business degree in Oregon to working 80-hour weeks at Bay Area startups, Cissy spent years on a path that wasn't hers. Then she heard a voice actor from The Simpsons on the radio, found a voiceover school an hour from her house, and started taking classes that same week. She calls it the "cosmic zipper", the moment she pivoted, everything came together.

She booked her very first audition, Katya in Telltale's The Walking Dead. Moved to LA. Went a full year without work. Built herself back up through community, meditation, and the refusal to tie her worth to bookings.

Cissy has carved out a space for characters who carry both strength and vulnerability, leaders you'd follow into battle who still need a hug at the end of the day and her path is a reminder that it's never too late to find the thing you were put here to do.

The strongest voiceover performances don’t come from “acting harder.” They come from telling the truth.

If a script calls for emotion, don’t hide behind comedy or over-the-top choices. Trust what’s on the page. The vulnerability is often what makes a performance feel real—and that’s what audiences connect with.

At the same time, know your limits. Some scenes can be emotionally demanding, and taking care of your own well-being is just as important as delivering a great performance.

Whether you’re working in commercials, narration, animation, or games, authentic human emotion is what separates a good read from a memorable one.
