If you have travelled really anywhere off shore you will know that a fresh made chicken salad roll on a freshly baked bread roll from a perky country bakery is, in global terms, a very rare beast. When it is absolutely chockers with crunchy salad and, yes, beetroot and rude bitey cheddar, AND mayo with no numbers in it, one has reasons to be grateful.

I spend a lot of time carrying on about our stupidly, ridiculously pathetic long haul public transport in Australia. 🇦🇺 I want to say the staff though are magic. Kind, patient, funny and firm if you’re a dickhead. Plus two of them just rolled through to take orders for fresh Devonshire Tea delivered to your seat.
Here’s my strategic plan for @transportfornsw
* more trains
* more often
* more quiet carriages
* more often
* go a bit quicker
* more often
* rebuild some of the stations you bull dozed in the 80’s when you intended to bust up the transport workers union and took the buildings instead.
* stop at the new old starions
* more often
* more tea
* more often
* keep the staff and the culture; keep doing that. They rock.

We had so much fun this year revamping the Home and Garden Produce section at #ganmainshow #ganmainshow2026 ! Massive thank you and shout out to Kendra Kerrisk, Bernadette Proctor, Steward and set designer @sophie_brill , our patient, meticulous, funny, grumpy (looking at you Howard Martin) judges Howard Martin Fresh Produce and Eggs, Alex Patterson Bread and Carmine Cantone and John Dowling Salami. But the biggest shout goes to our gardeners, our chook whisperers, our bread wranglers and our Salami sisters and brothers. It’s a no show without you! See you next year for all of the above plus olive oil and honey. by @citizenmum

We Australians are stupid snobs when it comes to train travel. And look, I get it. We love the privacy and luxury and convenience of our own car, our little road fortress, our family pod and keeper of navigational melt downs, sudden needs for a wee, mixed emotions as to playlist choices, the exclusivity of being given the key to the truck stop loo, random chip packets and coffee cups, flat iPads in the middle of Bluey, and, best of all, OTHER DRIVERS. It’s all lovely.
Belting through the rain and luminescent canola fields at 120km an hour though….
With a scone though…
And a clean bathroom though….
