Hooray for teaching! Last night was the first of several craft classes I’m teaching while on book tour and what an awesome time we had! City Lit Project, run by the indomitable Carla Du Pree, teamed up with East Coast favorite Greedy Reads for a night where I shared tactics with students to help them turn a premise into a plot.

I started with an example from ALAN OPTS OUT which was the inspiration for this course, because several years ago I turned a draft of it into my agent, thrilled with what I’d accomplished, only to learn that I had a premise, but no plot. Ideas without stakes. Energy but no momentum.

If you’re in the B More area, a stop at one of Greedy Reads two locations is a MUST. The staff is so knowledgeable, so dedicated, so full of joy—Julia and her team presented me with lobster trinket dishes, y’all!

Tonight I’m teaching a version of this class at @oldtownbooks at 5pm— come join us!

Greedy Reads and City Lit Project, thank you so very much for having me!

Signed copies of ALAN are available at Greedy Reads’ Remington location 📚 💜 🦀 taken in Greedy Reads- Remington by @citylitproject
