As we prepare to remember #SaintFrancis, I feel thankful for the legacy of faith which has run through my family's history. My uncle #DonGuidoDavico stands out with his many years as a Franciscan missionary, as parish priest in #MaglianoAlfieri (succeeding in the footsteps of his beloved cousin #DonEttoreDrocco) and a fine painter who illustrated Saint Francis's life in simple murales which bring a special light to the local park. by @civet.debiche

Moments from Humans Out of the Box ll by @benjamin.abana.artist at the Residence of Head of Cooperation EU Delegation in Nigeria and ECOWAS Mr Massimo de Luca

Humans Out of the Box is presented by Victoria Minaise @vakvouk , the Founder of @cafe_de_vie and 7 River Capital

Humans Out of the Box II is both a continuation and a sequel to last year’s exhibition of Benjamin Abana’s Human’s Out of the Box. This is a collection of works that celebrates the Nigerian daily life, looking beyond individual struggles to question what it truly means to be human in an era defined by complexity, urgency, and possibilities. Building on the momentum of the 2025 exhibition, this edition positions art as a catalyst for dialogue, reflection, and action.
What you experience tonight are the paintings of a Danish-Nigerian artist, whose portrait practice embodies the ethos of stepping “out of the box.” These 13 figurative works confront the viewer with honesty and emotional immediacy.
Abana’s global recognition, from winning Denmark’s Best Portrait Painter in a national competition hosted by DR TV to his 2024 commissioned painting of the Danish king, Frederik X,underscores the cultural reach of his practice. Yet, Humans Out of the Box II focuses less on acclaim and more on intention: how art can unlock collective potential and inspire meaningful impact.

Military rule in Nigeria between 83 and 93 holds stark resemblances with what is happening today in neighbouring countries. It came with promises of sanitizing the polity and usher a new era of peace and prosperity. Nigerian history proves that military regimes are not suited to deliver civilian regimes (unless headed by staunch democracy believing leaders such as Obasanjo or Abubakar) and that a politicised military leads to crippling both the military and the country. The woes Nigeria is currently enduring can be safely traced back to that era: institutionalised corruption above all, but also bullying by a clique of above-the-law individuals. For those who care about Nigeria's future, "Soldiers of Fortune" by Max Siollum is a compelling read as it is unlikely that a better future may emerge if not-so-old sins are acknowledged and addressed.
